Mayfair Games Hey That's My FishMayfair Games Hey That's My Fish
Oh my, oh my! A great game for four to ninety four. Fast, fun, fishy, easy to learn and a great choice for multiple ages. You can play cutthroat or cooperatively. Beautiful artwork, wooden penguin pieces and sturdy tiles. Originally titled Penguins (Pengvuins!) in Latvia. We're all super-glad these penguins immigrated.

An easy game to get addicted to! Smart six and up. Tiles are randomly picked from a stockpile and wooden meeples are placed to gain points along roadways, in fields, monasteries and along castle walls. Playing time runs around half an hour -to forty five minutes without using expansion packs.

Seriously, buy two of these. As well made as the cards are, you will wear them out playing this game! Travels well, changes every time, has surprises and plays well across age groups. Anything by Gamewright is super, but if you are reading this and happen to be the one who designed this game, email me, I want to buy you some chocolate!
Mad Hatter Crokinole 3-in-1 GameMad Hatter Crokinole 3-in-1 Game
Well, I wanted to add Pitchcar to this list, but Amazon doesn't have it. But PITCHCAR is a super game. We can't walk by it without playing when it's set upCrokinole is the same idea, but you flick your fingers to pitch wooden discs to a target instead of around a track. Takes dexterity, and a good hand massage after playing so much!

A tile and resource game for excellent table play, and a super place to start with tile-type games. Expansion packs and variations like Settlers of Canaan keep this game fresh.

Want some one on one play? This is a beautiful game designed by Reiner Knizia. Giant cards with intricate artwork that are played to represent an expedition to one of five lost civilizations. Scoring is a little tricky to when you first hear it, but the rules are well written and the examples make it easy to figure out. Takes about 20 minutes - smart 7 and up.

This game is good for four players and up, it doesn't do too well with less than that. Can be played with as many people as you want. A new classic that is popular with middleschoolers and up. Slightly educational, but don't tell the kids that!

A more appropriate choice if you have kids under ten - easier words and concepts. Still a lot of fun for adults and older kids. Six year olds do better with cards like "Dora the Explorer" than "Paul McCartney." No offense Sir Paul.

I'm all for the classic. Wood blocks, no trendy printing on them. One-handed fun for kids and grown ups 3 and up. As an alternative, with plain blocks, we build up one at a time til it falls, and be sure to bet dessert against each other when the going gets dicey at the end.
Khet: The Laser GameKhet: The Laser Game
Buy new: $31.36
This game is way cool! Red and Silver pieces on a black board. A laser beam that takes out the pharoah. This game gets raves from a 13 year old boy, and that's not an easy task! Like chess, but with a twist. Be sure to read the warnings about not getting laser beams in your eyes!!

A great all-purpose game. Easy to start and stop. A favorite in airports everywhere!
Flea Circus GameFlea Circus Game
Buy new: $7.69
Too cute! The dog and cat tokens are a cool funky plastic that makes them very stackable. Even though the fleas on the cards are the performers in this circus, the other animals can do acrobatics. Takes about 20 minutes, good for kids who know their numbers and up. Keep turns moving or it gets slow.
Blink GameBlink Game

This quick game is a good one for adult-child play. My kids usually beat me fair and square. Match characteristics in a chaotic race to get rid of the cards in your hand.
SET GameSET Game

If your kids like logic this is a good one. Not a lot of knee-slapping entertainment, but a challenging brain game. Start out playing with JUST one color to learn it quickly or when playing with young kids. Not as good across age groups because of the developmental skills it uses.

Spatial, attractive, reasonable playing time. Be sure to read fully through the directions for playing with less than four people.

Teenagers who like fantasy and logistics will love this game. Not at all dark in theme, it challenges the player to get around the board using a combination of tile and cards. Plays in about 45 min to an hour.

We like this game a LOT as an alternative to Scrabble. Similar concept, (word building) but doesn't take as long to play, and the cards are easier to manage than tiles. If you like Scrabble, you will like it, if you don't like Scrabble you may still like it.
