Best for Costa Rica Property Purchases
If you are truly interested in buying property in Costa Rica, and want a book to lay out the process, this is the best book I could find. Others give great descriptions on the culture and way of life in Costa Rica, retirement issues etc., but I wanted to know the mechanics of buying property and performing due diligence- this book does that. It also provides web resources that allowed me to perform a title search in the National Registry- very cool. The layout could be improved a bit- there is redundant advice thrown in various sections that do not necessarily pertain to that section's topic; there are also many mentions that Costa Rican law is Napoleonic and not Common Law, but never tells you what that means. So it is not perfect, but it gave me the nuts and bolts information I was looking for.

excellent book if you want to buy real estate in Costa Rica
For a while I thought about buying real estate in Costa Rica and bought Scotts book which is very informative and helpfull. He actually does plug his web site www.welovecostarica.com in the book which I found an excellent resource and very well researched.

Costa Rica Real Estate Bible
If you are interested in purchasing real estate in Costa Rica, start by reading Scott Oliver's book. This excellent resource will give you a detailed overview about Costa Rica as well as all the do's and don'ts of purchasing real estate in Costa Rica. The only downside of this book is the constant and annoying promotion of the author's website as well as some of his real estate listings. Every now and then it's ok to mention the website, but there were moments that it was 2-3 times on each page. I recommend to the author to write a new updated version of this book as his insight on Costa Rica real estate is very valuable and also because there has been a lot of changes since 2005. Excellent book!
