Problems with Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote
This device is useless. It is worth about $19.95 not a penny more. It has so many problems I do not have enough time to make a list. It may work for one device and a TV, but I have 4 devices and a TV.
1. It does turn on the correct devices most of the time but it never gets the correct input. The only way to get the correct input, you have to use the Help button and answer questions to get to the problem or problems. I have to use the Help button every time I use this Device. Without the Help button this device would not work on most applications.
2. If I get one device ON and the other device OFF, it is almost impossible to fix the problem using the remote control. If you hit the OFF switch it will turn OFF one device and turn NO the other device. Hitting the device buttons or the OFF switch again will turn ON one device and turn OFF the other device. You can use the Help Button but this make take 20 switches selections before reaching the device you need to change.
3. After using the Help button, I would hope that the device would remember the problem. It does not. If you have an application that you have to use the Help button you have to use it every time.
As a Professional Programmer I feel that the program for this device was never throughout from a user view point.
Close to perfection....Things you don't know about this unit...
Pros: Everything is customizable
comfortable to hold
Helpful customer service
Cons: Battery Guzzler (light can be turned off)
Free customer service only good for 90 days, so abuse it!!
Delay when turning multi devices on.
No power button for individual devices
I will tell you things about this remote that other reviewers might not mentioned.
1. Be ready to spend alot of time tweaking this remote if you have a more complex entertainment system. For example, I have a projector that required you to power off twice. i had to call customer service to figure out how to do it but it is possible.
2. Battery Guzzler: Customer service said the blue light is what drained the battery. The light illuminates whenever you push any of the "one touch" button. The light can be turn off where you can manually turn it on by pushing the "glow" button. Under normal use on automatic, you're look at 2-3 weeks of battery life. On manually, you're looking at about 2 months. Another way to save battery is to use a second remote like your Tv remote for more active activities. Having 2 active remotes is better than 5+ remotes and save battery. If not, go and spend $100+ on their rechargeable model.
3. Delay when turning multi devices on: It takes a good 5+ seconds for the remote to slowly turn all your devices on and changing to the proper inputs. It is not perfect. If you don't aim at the right angle, it might misses a device then you have to go through the "help" button. So know where to aim!
4. No power button for individual devices: Every device you add in your list, there is no default power button. You have to go to "customize" to create your own power button.
Works like a charm
I bought the refurb version from Amazon along with the Playstation 3 adapter. Now I no longer have to fumble around with 4 remotes to get everything working the way I want it to. I have a TV, Home Theater, DVR Cable Box and the PS3, and the Harmony was a breeze to set up. The included software found all my models and programming was a snap. I held off for so long because Harmonys were not compatible with the PS3, but now I am so glad to have one. My only minor complaints are that the navigation buttons are slightly cramped and I wish the keys had more of a "clicky" microswitch feel that the navigation buttons have. Nonetheless, it is a well built product that will make leisure time just that more enjoyable. The refurb model is a steal to boot.
