Great upgrade for an older Delta table saw
I was looking for more rip capacity and ease of use in a fence for my 1970's vintage Rockwell (Delta) contractor's saw. I've long coveted the Beisemeyer-style fences, but I could not justify spending $300+ for the upgrade. When Delta released this fence at this low price, I could not wait any longer. This fence works great for less than half the price of the originals.
I have to admit - I purchased the fence from another retailer for a bit less money. But the Amazon deal is actually better - you get the legs and a table board along with the fence for almost the same price. My review will be confined only to the fence itself.
The fence comes nicely packaged. I was prepared to spend an afternoon doing the installation, but to my surprise, the fence bolted right onto my saw in about 20 minutes. I guess Delta has not changed the spacing of the bolt holes for the rails over the past 30 years. The instructions were pretty clear, and I had aligned the fence with the saw's slots in a few minutes. The fence includes 2 sets of alignment bolts that make accurate alignment in two planes simple. Although I did not use all the hardware, the fence includes a variety of additional bolts - I am guessing these are for installation on saws that use stamped steel wings, or perhaps different drilling of holes.
This fence is a significant upgrade over my original fence. I get an additional 6-8" of rip capacity to the right of the blade (and this is key when trying to rip a piece of plywood in half). The fence glides smoothly throughout its travel left and right. It includes a gauge that makes quick measurements possible by sight (I still use a ruler just to make sure). Although the T2 is a "lighter" version of the original Beisemeyer, this unit is solid - at least for my needs. When the cam is locked there is no noticeable movement side to side. While my old fence had a slight bow that could never be removed, this unit is perfectly straight along its length.
Overall, this is an upgrade I'm extremely glad to have made. I would heartily recommend this fence for anyone looking to expand the capacity of their table saw without dropping a huge amount of cash.
The fence is a big improvement for an 5 year old Craftsman Saw
This fence is a huge improvement to the fence that came with my Craftsman table saw. I've looked into buying a T square style fence in the past, but could not justify spending the hundreds of dollars for the saw. And a new saw is not in the budget. This was the perfect fence for the price.
It was fairly easy to retrofit as well, only requiring me to drill a few holes in the table for mounting. The entire retrofit took less than 1 hour, drilling included. The fence lines up parallel to the blade within 0.005" every time (the old fence could be off more than 1/16" requiring tedious adjustment). It was parallel and square to my table out of the box. It also provides an additional 6" of capacity to the original rails. I look forward to using this fence for many years.
If you live near a Lowe's, this fence is usually on display on their Delta table saw. After trying it out in the store, I decided to purchase it.
The fence itself gets 5 stars. I gave it only 4 stars because I purchased this from Amazon as it was to come with a table board and legs. Unfortunately, I was told Delta changed the product and those are no longer included. This can be purchased elsewhere for slightly less.
Excellent product for the price.
Happy woodworking!
Delta T2 Fence a Great Value
To upgrade to a cabinet saw or not, that was the question. I was happy with my Sears 3hp cast iron top contractors saw but the fence was a wobbly problem. $300+ for an aftermarket fence made purchasing a new saw the prudent option until I decided to try the Delta T2 fence. Its great!. The fence is very similar to more expensive T-type fences, very firm and true. The low price makes the upgrade a good option. As I suspected the holes did not line up with the Sears product but one hole drilled through the angle iron and it was a good match. Amazon service is "top notch"!
