Product Description

Where do we start? How about value? This Marantz makes the upgrade path easy. You don't have to settle for "commodity-grade" performance any longer. Instead, you'll find advanced HDMI connectors and switching for your favorite A/V sources. Go on, take advantage of HDMI's digital-quality performance and the single-cable connection convenience! For conventional display devices, the SR5001 boasts two component video outputs so you can still enjoy exceptional picture quality. And there's an "upconverter" (or "transcoder") that takes outputs from legacy video sources and improves them for enjoyment on today's monitors. A Lip Synch adjustment makes sure that you hear dialog exactly when your eyes say you should -- not with that unnatural delay you can experience with less-capable products. There's a second zone audio output that lets you hear a different source in another area. And you can enjoy that convenience in mono or stereo, depending on the number of speakers you have in that bedroom, den, or kitchen. Of course, there's an infrared input and a DC trigger output so you can use the SR5001 in a custom-configured system. And we haven't forgotten space either. The new, shallow chassis goes almost anywhere. And makes this Marantz even easier to enjoy.

Superb Audio Quality At A Reasonable Price!5
Being long-term audiophiles, my dad and I were recently forced to purchase a new stereo receiver when our previous one bit the dust. We tune pianos by ear for a living, so audio quality is very important to us, and not as much the electronic "bells and whistles," such as networking, HDMI 1.3, etc.

We picked up our unit for $699 at a nearby retailer called "The Stereo Shop". We compared it with a $500 Harmon Kardon, as well as a $1,000 Denon unit, not to mention early comparisons with Onkyos and Yamahas, all of which were tossed in short order. We knew we were not interested in a Sony receiver, since Sony seems to have given up on producing high quality audio receivers in the last few years.

Although it doesn't have the "bells and whistles" that the $1000 Denon had, it clearly had a much better quality audio signal. The mid-range on the Denon was absolutely terrible, by comparison, whereas this unit produced astounding clarity in all sound ranges. But the real kicker was going to be -- what would it sound like when we got it home and heard it on OUR speakers?

We have a set of wood-cased 2-way Advent speakers from the '70's -- the ones that are still legends in the speaker community. We also have Polk Audio center channel, surround speakers, and a Polk woofer. The room is not exceedingly large, at about 12 x 10.

It took about four hours, and no small amount of patience, to make all the connections and to set up the on-TV-screen digital settings for the receiver. However, it was all well worth the effort. This is, by far, the most incredible sound I've ever heard in a home-theater... and I've heard some nice setups over the years. It also does wonderful work on audio CD's -- everything from Norah Jones and Josh Groban to Chopin and the SACD release of John Barry's "Raise the Titanic" score.

The final assessment: if you like high-quality, crisp audio, and don't need excess frills -- get this unit. Hands down.

The Leader in Home Sound Reproduction !!! In my view !!!5
One of the Leaders, if not THE Leader in Home Electronics for listening pleasure !!! I've been aware of Marantz and their EXCELLENT "sound reproduction" since the 1960's when I enlisted in the U.S.A.F. ,,, and shortly thereafter like all my fellow G.I.'s who enjoyed music ,,, purchased my first stereo. -- My first purchase was not a [top-shelf] Marantz. Instead I had chosen a lesser quality manufacturer ,,, I always regretted my choice after I saw what some of my fellow G.I.'s had chosen ,,, the wise-guys had purchased MARANTZ !!! --- I'm not one to emulate others ,,, only learn from them ,,, So it was many years later when I became READY [after retirement] for my purchase of a MARANTZ !!! :-)

The numerous Connectors on the back panel are most adequate !!! -- I was able to connect my many [sometimes unorthodox] input / output devices, i.e. Wireless Headset, Apple MacBook Pro laptop ,,, tape drive,,,etc.

The Remote Control is awesome ,,, it can control all functions & features ,,, including power on/off and completely controls other Marantz equipment, i.e. CD Player.

Note: Rather than have you the listener "play" with an infinite number of "mixing output" knobs ,,, YUCH! ,,, Marantz gives you many Pre-Sets for listening pleasure --- For example: I chose [by pressing the Surround Sound button] "Stereo / Speaker A / Analog" for most excellent sound reproduction [vinyl]. -- Other choices for listening output are "Cinema, Dolby, Neo, Auto,,, etc. etc."

OH YES !!! --- ONE MORE HIGHLY APPRECIATED OBSERVATION !!! --- NO STATIC SHOCKS EVER, FROM THE CARPET OR WHATEVER !!! I REALLY LIKE NOT BEING SHOCKED AFTER YEARS OF COUNTLESS STATIC ELECTROCUTIONS, ha,ha
