Amazon.com Product Description
Do away with bulky day packs without sacrificing storage capacity with the Mountainsmith Day lumbar pack. Ideal for short hikes, urban touring, or school use, the 854-cubic-inch pack offers such generous features as a zippered main compartment that holds picnic lunches or valuables, an interior zippered hanging pocket for keys and the like, and a zippered front panel pocket for items that demand quick access, such as a flashlight or Leatherman. Hikers, meanwhile, will appreciate the pair of water bottle pockets, each of which accommodates a 32-ounce water bottle, while frequent travelers will dig the back-panel airline ticket pocket.

The Day pack is no slouch from a comfort perspective, either, with a removable shoulder strap with a sliding pad (great for airports), an air mesh foam back panel, and a tuck-away waist belt. And should you need to compress the contents when fitting the pack into a cramped overhead compartment or a tight school locker, simply cinch up the two compression straps and you're set. Other features include a bright yellow lining that promotes visibility, reflective highlights, and elastic rigging.

The pack--which is made of durable 420d Velocity nylon body fabric, high-density Oxford nylon reinforcements, and 210d mini ripstop nylon lining--measures 13 by 15 by 10 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a lifetime warranty.

had this bag for 4 years!5
I have used this bag almost daily for 4 years.

I used it in costa rica for 1 month, used it in Burma for 1 month, and Mexico for 2 weeks.

I am a photographer and it was / is great. Definitely buy the strapettes to keep the weight off your hips. I was able to put a tripod on the bottom and carry 20 lbs of camera gear on it. I put a pad on the bottom of the main pocket to cushion my dslr, and used the smaller pocket for first aid kit/etc small stuff.

I still use it today and carry all my day-to day gear in it. love it. Never used the hip straps-just tucked them into the back pad and forgot abut them. There is a "secret" top pocket where the back pad is at the top.

this bag hasn't unraveled one bit, like the day i bought it but faded now :) I only wish it was truly waterproof the it would be perfect.

The best daypack on the market!5
I bought a mountainsmith bag at the suggestion of a friend who used it everday for 2 years and said it was the best daypack around. I took it on a trip to Peru where I was going to do substaintial hiking and carrying a lot on me each day (jacket, two water bottles, camera, etc). Because this bag has a hip strap and a shoulder strap, I never once got sore shoulders from carrying 10-15 pounds each day.

In fact, the entire group I traveled with had this bag and absolutely LOVED it. The pockets are great for storing stuff, it can syntch into a smaller bag when it is empty, and the water bottle holders on each side are great for also holding cameras, gloves, etc. I loved how padded the straps are, which meant I never felt a heavy strap on my shoulder.

I would recommend this bag to anyone who commutes, goes hiking alot, or just wants a bag to carry gear around. I still use this bag commuting to work to carry my lunch, extra shoes for work, and the occasional jacket/sweater.

versatile little pack5
This little pack is extremely well built, small enough to throw on for running around town, or big enough for an overnight, or a trek out to the hills for the day. Lots of straps and tags and bungee cords to add things on. Very versatile. And above all very comfortable. I owned my first one 20 years ago, and now with back problems flaring I remembered it and am loving it again.
