A "must-have" definitive performance5
This recording shows Ancerl and the Czech Philharmonic at their absolute best, which is saying a lot. If there's a better performance of the Dvorak Requiem anywhere I've never heard of it.

This is also flat out one of the best discs I own, one done with such passion and intensity and musicianship that it makes you realize again why you started listening to this kind of music in the first place.

At this price (it is two discs) it is a true bargain and an absolute must-have for any classical collection.

The same as the DG5
This is the exact same recording as the DG version, but is part of the Ancerl Edition.

I have the DG double (with image-bit-processing), I'm not sure if it's still available at your local HMV or what not, but if it's not then this Suprafon will do just fine!

No matter what though, the Ancerl Requiem is truly one of those precious desert island discs!

He included everything!4
In this haunting work-which could have been shortened without serious loss-Dvorak seems to have attempted every mode of expression for the traditional words of the Requiem mass. Many striking passages have resulted.
The singers are very good;most of their words are distinguishable- a must, I think, for sacred pieces.
A very pleasing and moving work. Perhaps editing out 8 - 10 minutes would not destroy but enhance its power.
