Nice compliation of Maynard's early work from 1949 through 1956. Includes two early radio broadcasts (1949) with the Dorsey band; his outrageous version of "All the Things You Are" with Charlie Barnet, the classic song "Maynard Ferguson" that was written for him in the Kenton band.

Helped kick-start Maynard's career; helped relaunch his return to the U.S. The killer sequence of Maynard early 70's albums are: this one, "Maynard Ferguson," "M.F. Horn 2", "M.F. Horn 3," "M.F. Horn 4&5" and "Chameleon."

This two-part series "live at the great american music hall" is a live version of Maynard's band at the time...less over-processed than the "Live at Jimmy's" album.

Recorded live in New York at a club called Jimmy's; also known as "Live at Jimmy's." Great recording, more straight-ahead jazz and a little less jazz/rock and jazz/pop than his other records of the time. 1974

Some good stuff here but also some unfortunate flirtations with 70's disco/jazz/funk glitz. 1976. From this period until 'Live in San Francisco' in 1983 Maynard was recording more pop/commerical-oriented music.
