Great training device5
I bought this from a local bike store and love it. Training with power provides much more instant feedback as to how hard you are working. It is especially good for interval training (provides much more feedback that heart rate or speed), indoor training (great for rollers), and long rides (to keep you from expending too much energy too early). The Powertap is more expensive than other brands (iBike in particular) but it allows you the ability to train indoors (the iBike does not). The device is very durable and comes with a one year warranty. There is no maintenance on it other than a simple once a week "zeroing of power" that takes 20 seconds to do. The software is pretty rudimentary, but does run on either Windows or Mac systems. Finally, it must be noted that a new rear wheel must be built onto the Powertap. This makes it impossible to just buy and install as it is (and likely makes it preferable to purchase through a local bike store).
