The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide: Five Complete Novels and One Story (Deluxe Edition)The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide: Five Complete Novels and One Story (Deluxe Edition) by Douglas Adams
Buy used from: $18.29
My favorite book was 'Life, The Universe and Everything.' That one was pretty darn funny.
ArenaArena by Karen Hancock
Buy used from: $0.92
Better than I expected. I liked it a lot, although the action got a little repetitive.
McCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery In IrelandMcCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery In Ireland by Pete McCarthy
Buy used from: $0.65
Interesting read. Pretty funny at times. I wished I'd had a map of Ireland while reading, though.
Solar FlareSolar Flare by Larry Burkett
Buy used from: $3.00
Not particularly memorable, although the concept was certainly interesting.
The Cost of DiscipleshipThe Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Buy new: $10.80 / Used from: $3.25
Though the first part is thick, I read the chapters on the Sermon on the Mount twice in a row because they were so good.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-TimeThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $0.01
Interesting perspective, and a pretty easy read.
Undaunted Courage : Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American WestUndaunted Courage : Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West by Stephen Ambrose
Buy new: $12.96 / Used from: $0.07
Pretty good. Lots of detail. Never realized Lewis committed suicide.
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young GirlAnne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $0.01
Anne Frank was quite a writer. Though her life was cut short, it's great that she left a legacy that was able to outlast the Holocaust.
Emma (Penguin Classics)Emma (Penguin Classics) by Jane Austen
Buy new: $8.00 / Used from: $1.62
Interesting Jane Austen. A little thick sometimes. Be sure to watch "Clueless" again when you finish.
A Nervous Splendor: Vienna 1888-1889A Nervous Splendor: Vienna 1888-1889 by Frederic Morton
Buy new: $10.88 / Used from: $0.84
Covers about a year in Austrian history, focused on Crown Prince Rudolf. Strange writing style. Or maybe the history was just strange.
Jane Eyre (Dover Thrift Editions)Jane Eyre (Dover Thrift Editions) by Charlotte Brontë
Buy new: $3.50 / Used from: $0.78
Great book! Probably the best book I've read since "To Kill a Mockingbird." It made me cry at the end. Definitely a classic.
Defecting in Place: Women Taking Responsibility for Their Own Spiritual LivesDefecting in Place: Women Taking Responsibility for Their Own Spiritual Lives by Miriam Therese Winter
Buy new: $12.44 / Used from: $2.95
Peculiar read, for me. Some of the opinions I could understand and sympathize with. Some I thought misguided, and others didn't even make sense to me.
Wuthering Heights (Penguin Classics)Wuthering Heights (Penguin Classics) by Emily Brontë
Buy new: $7.00 / Used from: $0.88
I didn't really enjoy this book at all. Reading about Heathcliff and how bent he was on revenge just depressed me.
The Da Vinci CodeThe Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
Buy used from: $0.01
Too much to say to fit here. Full disclosure, I am a Christian (Protestant interdenominational), so my views are based in that perspective. The book isn't bad, but as far as the divinity of Christ, I'm more inclined to believe the testimony of Paul, who went from destroying Christians to dying for his Christianity, than a fiction book's author.
Charles Darwin: A Biography, Vol. 1 - VoyagingCharles Darwin: A Biography, Vol. 1 - Voyaging by Janet Browne
Buy new: $13.17 / Used from: $7.73
Interesting read about the man and his travels, and his thought leading up to his famous theory. Guess I'll have to read the second volume some day to hear the end of the story.
The Pilgrim's Progress (Oxford World's Classics)The Pilgrim's Progress (Oxford World's Classics) by John Bunyan
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $3.89
Despite the older English, a good, though-provoking read, especially the first half.
A Clockwork OrangeA Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $3.50
Thought-provoking book, although the graphic nature of the violence ensures I will never see the movie. Just don't want those visuals.
Bible DoctrineBible Doctrine by Wayne Grudem
Buy new: $25.07 / Used from: $21.76
Actually enjoyed this a lot. Informative, practical, and inspirational too.
Adam Bede (Penguin Classics)Adam Bede (Penguin Classics) by George Eliot
Buy used from: $0.01
I enjoyed this book a lot. I felt like I learned a lot about what life and culture were like in 18th century England.
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell: A NovelJonathan Strange & Mr Norrell: A Novel by Susanna Clarke
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I expected to. I don't think it will be one of those "memorable" reads.
Heart of Darkness (Norton Critical Editions)Heart of Darkness (Norton Critical Editions) by Joseph Conrad
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $3.99
I thought this writing style was hard to follow. So to me, this was not moving.
'57, Chicago'57, Chicago by Steve Monroe
Buy new: $12.70 / Used from: $0.65
Interesting and enlightening about the Chicago underworld.
