Product Description

Most have heard the phrase, "philosophy of life". Each individual has his or her perspectives of life and living. Smilosophy is a book about the world of smiles and how everyone enjoys having a smile returned from others who cross our paths in the course of each day. Put simply, this book is about smilosophy of life and how each person can develop their own. The subject of smilosophy is not complex at all and is charming in its approach to smiling.

What does a smile imply or attempt to communicate? A smile is the silent communicator that most all are born with. In this book, the reader is introduced to the various aspects of a smile. Is a smile understood universally crossing language barriers or not? The reader is then introduced to the Smile Zone that is truly enlightening. A smile can also be an illusion not actually communicating what the smile seems to indicate. The book also brings to light the health benefits of smiling and there is a chapter included about Smilosophies to live by. These subjects plus many more await each who read and will be enriched by Smilosophy: Getting More Smileage Out of Life.

from Chapter 2 - The Smile Zone

Almost everyone has experienced what seemed to be a magical day when everything went right and you could do no wrong. Great athletes call this "being in the zone". It is a time when the laws of the physical universe seem to disappear. When a person is in the quote unquote "ZONE", that person is in sync and everything is going right. If a person was in the zone palying basketball, then that would mean that every shot was going in. If a person is a football quarterback, then every pass is a completed pass and every play would be a success. If a youngster is playing a video game, and they are in the zone, then they couldn't lose. I think you get the gist of what I am saying. When a person is in the zone everything goes right.

I do understand that sometimes things just aren't going well and the whole world looks as if it is going to the dogs. If you read or watch the news at all, then you will understand that there are a lot of bad things that go on throught the course of each day. But each of us has a choice as to what our focus is drawn to. If the smiles are getting few and far between then maybe it's time to change our diet. When I say diet, I am not speaking of food, but what we are feeding our minds. It has been said, "Garbage in, garbage out". If you are on a diet of negativity and are constantly focusing on the horror that is around us all, then your smileage is probably very low.

Excerpt from Chapter 6 - Smile for Your Health

An apple a day keeps the doctor away or so the saying goes, but a smile can do wonders for you health too. Humans were created with built in medicine that bring health to the body and soul. There is a proverb that says, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine...". It is true that smiling is indeed healthy.

From an unbiased perspective, there are certain things that are just facts of life. Look at gravity for instance, if you jump from an elevated place, there is one direction that a person will go and that is down. Unless a person is Superman or has learned to fly, then the result will be the same for everyone. There are immutable universal laws. In other words, there are facts that are absolute and unarguable. Babies cry, the wind blows, the tide goes out and comes in, the sun rises and if I might add: Smiles make a person feel better, both the smiler and smilee.

Miles of Smiles5
"The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for." -Allan K. Chamlers

Michael Gray is the owner and founder of Stage of Life Publications and author of the concept called: Smilosophy. He lives in Shreveport, Lousiana and publishes a website and free electronic bi-monthly newsletter at stageoflife.net. Mr. Gray has also written several articles for various publications and definitely seems to have found many things in life to smile about. His daughter Amie is very fortunate to have such a positive role model for a father.

In this beautiful golden book, Michael Gray discusses a variety of smiles and in twelve chapters:

The Universal Language
The Smile Zone
Sacred Smiles
Illusions of a Smile
The Insatiable Smile
Smile for Your Health
Famous Smiles
Smilosphies for Life
The Birth of Smiley
Cyber-Smiles
100 Things to Smile About
Have a Nice Day

Throughout these chapters, the author weaves quotes and songs between his own writing. He draws on inspiration from "The Velveteen Rabbit," "Simple Things" by Jim Brickman, "The Prayer of Jebez" by Bruce Wilkinson, and "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale.

You will also find a list of recommended web sites, a list of things to smile about and a list of acronyms and emoticons he calls the "hieroglyphics" of the new millennium. There are some interesting ideas for how you can overcome depression and scientific information on how a smile can actually cool your brain.

I found out what all the cyber-smiles mean and which ones to use and not to use. While I had been using ;->, I should have been using :-> or ;-). I especially loved all the quotes in the Smilosophies For Life chapter.

A useful little book to help you develop your own smilosophy. There are a few pages in the back of the book for you to write your own thoughts.
