Product Description

In an era where new energy creation is critical, Bowman's book is meant to inform and to guide. "The Green Guide to Power: Thinking Outside the Grid" is not a "good-guy"- "bad-guy" story. It discusses the importance of energy creation and energy distribution both globally and here in the US. Without minimizing conservation efforts, Bowman raises awareness that new alternative energy sources are in dire need. The immediacy of the energy challenge is finding all of us. The inability to access reliable, cost effective and carbon neutral power is affecting individuals, businesses and the planet at large.

"Thinking Outside the Grid" is designed to help the lay person understand the energy conundrum.

Bowman's first book, "Business Continuity Planning for Data Centers and Systems" helps professionals in their quest to site and build data centers, and to plan for disaster recovery. This book has assisted CEO's, CFO's and IT managers to maintain an efficient business plan in the event of a disaster. Bowman includes information on Acts Of God, the different tiers of design, the challenges of power and cooling, and effective site selection.

"Thinking Outside the Grid" is an easy to read, primer for those who want to educate themselves in the field of energy conservation and creation. The book discusses in detail the following:

* The history of power in the United States
* Different Generating Sources--Thinking Outside the Grid
* Centralized and Decentralized Power Generation
* Post Deregulation Realities
* Best Practices of Power Conservation and Creation
* Data Center and Mission Critical Power Needs
* Sustainable and Commercially Viable Power Sources
* Financial Impacts of the Changing Power Paradigm
* Global Warming
* The Government's Role
* Acts of God, Human Intervention and Power

Customer Reviews

Written from experience, reads easily and clear5
I appreciated the candid and logical approach to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. This was an easy read with good reach and the data that supports decentralization for all or at least a portion of user loads to meet the market demands and improving the grid.

Bowman hits the right buttons at the right time. As a consultant and builder of these systems he is not a scientist turned economist or economist turned scientist. Rather, Bowman speaks from experience; we need to listen.

An Intuitive Read 5
Bowman's writing is clearly an accomplishment from one who has direct interface with the energy problems facing this world. It is intelligent, yet an easy read for "us simple minded" people. A thought provoking book on our looming energy crisis. Highly recommended!
