Customer Reviews
Love it -- except for the noise!
We have only had this machine at home for a week, but the two batches of ice cream we have made so far have been wonderful. The first was the vanilla out of the recipe book and the second was a dulce de leche that I made up. Both were excellent. My wife, who normally can take or leave ice cream, said, "Is this what ice cream is supposed to taste like?" Fresh ingredients and this capable machine would seem to be the secret.
I gave the unit 4 stars because it is quite loud in operation. The noise is really the only drawback we have encountered thus far.
Just what I wanted!
A great ice cream maker. No prefreezing bowls. It is loud so plan your ice cream making accordingly - you will not want to be in the same room as this thing when it is going unless you are already deaf LOL!
The price of this remanufactured unit along with the Amazon discount running at the time brought it to 125 with no shipping fees. Try to get that on Ebay!
This unit stays on my countertop at all times and attracts much interest from visitors. The ice cream is wonderful - I recommend Ben and Jerry's cookbook and a good ice cream scoop. Replacement parts can be found on the manufacturer's website and are reasonably priced.
I like it
I just received this machine yesterday. After waiting 24 hours for it to 'settle' I made my first two batches.
Construction is good. I like the arm, how it detaches when resistance of the ice cream becomes too great. This is the fail-safe "as designed" method for stopping the mixing process before the motor burns out. Sometimes the armiture stops mixing before the viscosity reaches an acceptable thickness, but just check it once ever so often and there is no problem here.
First batch was my fault, but came out well. I used a whipped egg white french vanilla recipe (raw eggs) that came out well, just too much chocolate chunks, should have been less.
Second batch was same base, added fresh brewed Coffee, raisens soaked in Jim Beam and some chocolate bits with nuts. I think I mixed it for too long and it had some ice crystals. First batch was better (same base recipe).
Lesson: don't let it mix more than an hour. I think that is how the "grainy" texture developed. Cool your base to as low a tempature as possible and reduce the time.
