Editorial Reviews
Midwest Book Review
This second edition of Reblitz's title can be used by students and hobbyists, but it's the professional most likely to include this in a personal reference library. Here is all the information essential to the art of restoring and maintaining a piano; from minor repairs and cleaning to major tuning and complete restoration techniques. A fine, specific reference.
Customer Reviews
Essential reading for piano technicians
I used this book to make a thorough reconditioning of my 1906 Chappell upright piano. Indispensible, comprehensive, clearly set out and explained. Highly recommended.
Great Manual
If you have any interest in doing work on a piano, get this book. It is very easy to understand and I found it very helpful. Well worth the investment.
Entertaining but at a curious inbetween level of detail
I have an old Steinway that could use some work. I bought this book in the hope that it would give sufficient detail to actually undertake the work, but it is more a guided tour to let one know what a real technician would do. A lot of information is given, but not in either enough detail or with sufficient completeness to allow it to be considered an instruction manual. I also hoped to learn some more about the detailed mechanics of the tuning process -- the points of friction, and lubricants that one could use on the pin block to allow a faster convergence to the desired pitch -- but this was not at all discussed.
That said, it is entertaining and educative, and is probably a very useful introduction to a more complete text (I am still looking for that!).
