From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 2–For children, the concept of peace can be a difficult one to understand, and Parr makes an admirable attempt to explain it. He relates the notion to making new friends, listening to different kinds of music, and helping your neighbor. Where he stretches it a bit is with sentiments such as, "Peace is wishing on a star" or "â¦watching it snow," even if the images are tranquil. Bright primary colors and bold black outlines define cartoonlike characters (animal and human) with smiling features. A helpful and engaging book that's sure to spark discussion.–Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA

From Booklist
PreS-Gr. 2. Parr offers another blazingly colored, upbeat celebration of diversity in this picture book that seems directly descended from the Peanuts characters' familiar declarations of "Happiness is . . ." On each page, Parr features a different definition of peace: offering a hug to a friend, keeping the streets clean, and so on. The closing message ("Peace is being who you are") is illustrated with Parr's usual multicultural mix of blue, green, brown, yellow, and purple faces. This does echo greeting-card sentimentality, but Parr's boldly outlined, bright images are as cheerful as ever, and his broad interpretations of peace could start discussions with children trying to wrap their minds around such an abstract concept, widening this book's audience to a slightly older age group than Parr's usual preschool fan base. About the Author
spent my childhood in a small town in Wyoming. It was a great place to grow up but I knew the world was out there waiting for me. In high school, art was a passion of mine, but I failed art class. Because of that failure, I lacked the self-confidence to pursue it further. But it wasnât all my teachers fault. I worked at many things before finally coming back to my original dream of painting, but again I faced rejection. Despite the rejection, I continued on with my work because I knew being an artist was what I wanted to do with my life. After not having success with galleries, I was able to show my work at one of Wolfgang Puckâs restaurants, Postrio, in San Francisco, where I have lived for the past 13 years. With a little luck and persistence, this exhibit led to many other things, like creating merchandise for Macys, and then on to my own line of clothing for kids. I first got into childrenâs publishing in 1998. I was able to take the messages that are part of my art and put them in a simple reading about acceptance, differences and empowerment for kids to feel better about themselves in a simple, fun way. I have a lot of fun creating my books and Iâm proud to know they are helping someone feel better about themselves in a silly, fun way. Here are some of the fun, cool things that have happened to me and my books: My work was displayed in the windows of FAO Schwarz in NYC and San Francisco, with interior displays of some of my product, including my first four books. â Todd Parr Shopsâ within Toys R Us Japan were launched at all 101 stores with products exclusively available in Japan. My Books have won several awards and have been featured on The Rosie OâDonnell show. Currently I have written and illustrated 28 books with two more for 2007 and 2008. In 2004, I appeared in a Panasonic commercial and print ad. I have partnered with Target, Reach Out and Read, People Magazine and several other organizations to promote reading. In November 2005, my childrenâs preschool show, ToddWorld premiered on TLC and Discovery Kids. The show has since been nominated for an Emmy and has won several other awards including the iParenting Media Award and the 2005 Humanitas Award for the episode entitled âWhoâs Your Best Friend?â. ToddWorld is now airing in almost every country around the world with a second season is in the works. With the support of my family, especially my Dad and Grandma, I have been very successful but I do have another passion. I'd like to own my own restaurant! As my Grandma used to say: " You're a little lost now but I know you'll find your way ". Todd and his dog, Bully

Bought this book 4 times
I love this book and have bought 4 copies of it to give as gifts. I originally stumbled across it in a store and gave it to my niece for her 2nd birthday. Since then each time my wife and I have been presented with the need for a gift for a small child we have come to Amazon and bought the book. I also got one for our church's childrens library. The pictures and colors are great. One line of text per page and the message is awesome. In a world where "Peace" is so often defined as the absense of war, it is nice to see a book with many interpretations that help to define the word for children in positive terms, not by what it is not.
"Peace is having enough pizza in the world for everyone!" What kid won't understand that?
The book also comes in two sizes. Both are fine, but if you are planning on using it to read to a group of children (at church, school, or a library) I would recommend the larger size.

A four year old boy seems to think if you are for peace you can't enjoy the power rangers and other toys with weapons. This book explains what peace is. This four year old boy seems to get it.
Great book!!!!
I really like this book and my daughter (4) likes it too. It's a great way to talk about all different kinds of people, music, clothes, etccc
