Home care nurse Hannah Grey is dedicated to her patient, an aging widow still tainted by the financial scandal her late husband perpetrated. She makes Hannah promise that upon her death, she’ll right the family’s wrongs, and gives Hannah her offshore account’s access codes.
But Carrick Manly will do anything to discover where his family’s fortunes lie— including kill his own mother. Fearing for her life, and desperate not to betray the widow, Hannah flees. And when Carrick’s half-brother, Gabriel, tracks her down in Houston, Hannah must trust her own instincts—and her heart—to survive.

From Booklist
For Hannah Grey, the chance to take care of Carrick Manly’s elderly mother, Melinda, couldn’t have come at a better time. Once Hannah arrives at Balfour House, though, she almost loses the job when she refuses to report back to Carrick on everything Melinda says. Thwarted by Hannah, Carrick hires Gabriel Prescott to wire Balfour House in order to find out if his mother really knows the location of the millions of dollars stolen by his father. But soon after starting his new assignment, Gabriel begins to wonder exactly who Hannah is: an unscrupulous nurse trying to con her new patient, or a dedicated woman unwittingly caught up in a dangerous search for a missing fortune. RITA Award–winner Dodd deftly brings both her Fortune Hunters and her Lost Texas Hearts series to a superbly satisfying conclusion in a deliciously suspenseful and atmospheric romance. --John Charles

Danger
I must first say that I LOVE Christina Dodd. Her writing is wonderful. But I was disappointed in this book. Just like the final book of the Darkness series this one felt rushed and there was not enough romance between the two characters. They talked on the phone three times and danced once. How can you fall in love that way? Gabriel was in love the first time he saw her picture and then spied on her for his brother(kinda creepy. This book is the conclusion of the fortune hunters and the Lost hearts of Texas, but there was not enough of any of those characters for me. I would love to know what everyone has been doing, how many babies they've got and all that. Also the bad guy never gets caught, and there is not a satisfying ending for Hannah and Gabriel for me. Also as a real life RN some of the stuff in the book was not right and that bothered me. Good story just not enough romance for me and it lacked the sizzle and sparkle of her other 3 books in this series. I gave it three stars because it is Christina Dodd.
Disappointing conclusion to two series
I'm not sure what happened, but Christina Dodd's newest left me wanting to pitch the book out a convenient window. Or at least take a scalding hot shower.
I normally love her books. They are usually suspenseful and have interesting characters. I usually end with a smile on my face. Danger in a Red Dress left me feeling like I wanted to vomit.
The ick factor was a major deterrent to enjoyment. I just could not get past the fact that the male lead character was a paid voyeur--err security expert. Watching the female lead (Hannah) through video surveillance, listening to her phone calls, watching her "take care of things" in her bed. It completely and totally grossed me out. It was, in fact, too eerily similar to the movie Sliver with Sharon Stone.
Added to that is the fact that I truly did not like the personalities of either character. At all. The ONLY character in the entire book that I liked was Gabriel's second in command--Daniel. And the too convenient inclusion of the Prescott families at the end just rang hollow with me. It felt more like a cutesy marketing ploy rather than a well-planned conclusion to two series.
Hooked me from the start.
Hannah Grey is a home-care RN who specializes in arthritis cases and is trained in physical therapy. When one of her patients leaves her some money in his will, the family believes she slept her way into earning it. The family uses their influence to have Hannah's New Hampshire nursing certificate suspended. Believing the lies, Carrick Manly decides Hannah is just the greedy person he needs.
Hannah is desperate for work and agrees when Carrick offers her the job of caring for his mother, Melinda, in her Maine coast mansion. Melinda has not left the mansion in fifteen years. That was when her husband crashed a multibillion-dollar business, stole the money and left the country without looking back. Carrick believes his mother knows where his father stashed the money and wants Hannah to pull the information out of her. But Carrick has read Hannah all wrong and she refuses to help scam Melinda. Hannah is getting ready to leave when Melinda comes up and asks her to remain.
Gabriel Prescott is one of Carrick's half-brothers. Gabriel plans to tell Carrick, but before he can Carrick hires his security firm. Gabriel hides monitors and audio devices all over the mansion because Carrick has convinced him that Hannah is abusing the elderly lady. But then Melinda is murdered and the video looks like Hannah is the killer. Worse, the equipment proves that Melinda had known where the money was all along and has not only told Hannah where it is being held, but all the access codes to retrieve it. Hannah finds herself on the run from the law and Carrick's unscrupulous people. Gabriel may be the only one who can keep her alive, if she can convince him of her innocence.
***** Christina Dodd proves, once again, that she has found her calling in life. This tale has a villain that readers will love to hate. He is a slimy man who seems to pull the wool over the eyes of all except his mother and Hannah (uh, and the thugs he owes money to). Full of action and suspense, this story kept me hooked from first until last. I found it to be a wild ride and absolutely thrilling! *****
