Fragile-- Handle with care2
I turn a lot of bowls, and I love the way the French Curve tool rest fits up inside the bowl, so you hollow it out without the scraper catching. But-- keep moving the rest closer to the bottom of the bowl as you go, keep your scraper sharp as possible, and don't try to remove too much wood too quickly-- because the tool rest can very suddenly snap off the stem.

first time bowl rest user5
I have been turning bowls now for about 9 months. I have always used a straight tool rest. I decided to try the Delta French Curl rest with good results. I use the one side for the outside of the bowl. This helps me do work without adjusting the rest after turning the bottom of the bowl. After reversing the bowl for the inside work I find the rest will make my work easier because I can move the rest in closer to the work. For the scraper I find it very nice. I can get the rest right up to the work and will not need to extend the tool long distances to meet the wood. I have purchased heavy scrapers to allow for extension of about 2 or 3 inchises or more. I can use smaller scrapers now. I have not had a catch with the scraper using this tool rest. As in all the Delta tools I've used, the quality is top notch. This is a tool I'll have in my shop for a long time. It will probably be handed down to my grandson when he starts his wood working projects.
