HD DVD

The HD DVD vs. Blu-ray battle might be a giant "fuck you" to consumers, and both formats will likely be obsolete in five years, but damned if I'm not a sucker for pretty pictures and great sound, so I have both formats. For all intents and purposes, there is no difference between the two, other than their maddeningly differing movie libraries. But as much as I love high-def, not EVERY movie warrants a re-purchasing for the extra pixels. A good upscaling DVD player (particularly the built-in upscaling in standalone HD DVD and Blu-ray players) will make your old discs look pretty great on your HDTV, allowing you to be a bit selective with the HD movies you choose to buy. With that in mind, these are my favorite HD DVDs of 2007 with a particular eye for films that really benefit from the jump to HD.
