Customer Reviews

Wow! Great single volume reference!5
I bought this book based on my favorable impression of this author's earlier volume on Postwar Lionel Trains. I was not disappointed! This book is a quantum leap forward! The photos are much larger, clearer and well lit. Checking the prices listed against what I just paid at York they seem to be accurate, and the rarity scale is handy too.

Prewar enthusiasts have not had an up to date reference in years - we have one now! This single book will replace three now on my shelf. Listed are Standard Gauge, 0, 00 and 2 7/8. Engines, cars, accessories and catalogs are all listed, along with vintage catalog appearing occassionally.

My only complaints are that no information is provided about Lionel sets, only the individual items - and although the book claims to have 1100 color photos - and probably does - I'd still like to have seen photos of some of the other paint schemes of some of the items. However, despite these minor complaints, this book is a great value!

A wonderful Reference work5
David Doyles new book on pre war Lionel is a must have volume which comprehensively reviews, using photographs and text, every piece Lionel manufactured during that time. Where he scores over other catalogues is as well as giving price valuations he shows rarity in simple to understand ratings something which is quite often hard to find
