everything dillard and clark ever recorded (together) is on this cd. along with the flying burrito brothers, it's ground zero for country rock. released around the same time, yet strangely unknown. a must for country rock fans.

eric dolphy's best record. it's not as difficult as "out to lunch". a true virtuoso and innovator, mingus and coltrane loved him for a very good reason. check out this cd and find out why.

the coltrane quartet at the absolute top of their powers. it's a magical, powerful, wonderful performance. the tape was recently discovered by coltrane's son ravi. somebody shoulda strangled the interrupting announcer.

for some reason this cd reminds me of the 1960s more than any other on this list. maybe i relate to it. a catholic boy who took acid and saw through all the bs.

i had the best of leonard cohen back in the day. it didn't make a big impression on me. this did. it's cohen's first and best record.

these two albums sound like somebody threw a massive dose of LSD in a hillbilly's moonshine jug. with the result being funny, demented and wonderful. hard to believe it came out in 1964.

in my opinion this is the best thing he ever recorded. it's basically a live greatest hits version of his first two albums. includes all his most famous songs (reason to believe, if i was a carpenter, etc). recorded at town hall (nyc) in 1968. harder edged and more jazzy than the studio versions. another tormented soul, he OD'd in 1980.

as you might expect, jimi's blues are not quite like anyone else. as you might also expect, this has wild, extraordinary guitar playing on every track. a must for hendrix fans.

2cd set. cd1 is greatest hits plus great alternative tracks. cd2 is "best of" live tracks. some previously unavailable. taken together it's a total sonic assault, almost a separate work of art in itself. the BEST hendrix collection.

great, wild, piano pounding rock&roll by one of the greatest rockers of them all. recorded live at the star club in 1964, when he was still trying to go toe to toe with the beatles.

it kills me that some people claim "okie from muskogee" was some kind of joke. nobody was laughing at the time. either side. it was so funny he followed it up with the even more jingoistic "the fighting side of me". anyway, this is a great collection of his best songs. half from the '60s.

this is the very first country rock album ever recorded (1967) and GRAM PARSONS at his absolute best. he only topped this once, with the great "THE GUILDED PALACE OF SIN" (the flying burrito bros. first album). this is the prototype of that later masterpiece. essential for country rock fans.

incredibly catchy english power pop from 1967. i had "THE HOLLIES GREATEST HITS" but i never imagined a HOLLIES album this good.

a great "lost" VAN MORRISON album from 1967. it's a bridge between his belfast rock band THEM and his first offical solo album ASTRAL WEEKS. features BROWN EYED GIRL and many other great songs.

great double album (now on one cd) from the young lions of late 1960's jazz; the session leader WOODY SHAW, GARY BARTZ, BENNIE MAUPIN, GEORGE CABLES, RON CARTER, CLINT HOUSTON, LENNY WHITE. if you like 60's jazz don't miss this one. it's a killer.
