![]() | The Park by Kohei Yoshiyuki
Buy new: $37.80 / Used from: $31.98 Although this book was originally published 20 years prior this edition is arguably the best. Book is well designed for the content and this work has gotten extraordinary reviews in its recent revival. It's priced well on amazon now and will not be around forever. In fact it may already be gone? Out of stock at most retailers now.
![]() | Helmut Newton: Sumo by June Newton
Buy new: $94.50 / Used from: $149.99 Book is being printed in the layman's version. Much smaller than the original, but that is relative as it will be about 16x20 inches and come with its own display stand. Good buy for Newton fans but I'm passing as it's so big and it appears a 3rd printing is already planned anyway so won't be too scarce.
![]() | Till Gerhard by Martin Faass
Buy new: $30.40 / Used from: $33.90 Hot young painter out of Germany. His style reminiscent of Peter Doig and the new Leipzig artists but his subject matter is uniquely ethereal and uncanny. Great cover and design with multiple different paper stock throughout depending on material presented.
![]() | America
Buy new: $21.86 / Used from: $16.25 This is a well produced (designed by Todd Oldham) hard back. First monograph by this young photographer already included in a Whitney Biennial (2006). Some great portraits of America and all types of people within it. At under $20 on Amazon it's a no brainer to pick up.
![]() | Rita Ackermann: Under Pressure from 2006 to 2007 by Rita Ackermann
Buy new: $18.00 / Used from: $16.49 Nice slim book (but roughly 15 inches tall) published to coincide with the her inclusion in the Whitney biennial. Contains photographs of her installations circa 2006-07 but so well designed that it feels like an artist book itself. Has a Marlene Dumas feel to it but with lots of layers, depth and collage. I'm guessing the run is probably not that large and it's at a great price on Amazon.
![]() | Dr. Lakra: Health & Efficiency by Abraham Cruzvillegas

![]() | Tom Friedman
Buy new: $57.37 / Used from: $49.98 Nicest book on Freidman yet. Big hardback book with great photos of the work and nice austere layout.
Published by Gagosian/Yale and I would guess that the print run is smaller than what is typical. Betting it will be gone within 12 months.

Buy new: $34.85 / Used from: $45.11 Great Japanese photographer getting the Steidl treatment. An extensive and unforgettable series of street portraits of outcasts and tourists from Japan's Asakusa district in Tokyo. Work reflects that of Diane Arbus and Roger Ballen but very unique in its own right. On view at and in the collection of the ICP.
![]() | Jan Tschichold: Master Typographer: His Life, Work and Legacy by Cees W. de Jong
Buy new: $46.07 / Used from: $44.97 A graphic design inclusion because this is the best monograph on (one of the last centuries greatest designers) Jan Tschichold to date. Excellent print quality, well design and very thorough selection of work. Only $45 now, I'd suspect it will be 'the' book on Tschichold and go for triple digits in a few years.
![]() | Tim Hawkinson by Steve Erickson
Buy new: $49.50 / Used from: $25.28 His monograph from the Whitney is the holy grail of Hawkinson fans but don't overlook this. Very intriguing design with sounds, posters and pop ups! Limited edition of only 2000 so it probably won't last through the year.
![]() | Dana Schutz: Paintings 2002-2005 by Dana Schutz

![]() | Sleeping by the Mississippi
Buy used from: $202.16 Heads up on this one. Publisher said they are out of stock which I'm assuming means that once store inventories are depleted there won't be any more. Best photobook in ages, some might say ever. Now in it's third edition and still selling very strong.
![]() | On the Beach
Buy used from: $473.99 One of Americas greatest photographers. A lot of excitement over this upcoming release. If you missed his earlier classics get this one. Will probably be sought after many years to come. Wow this one disappeared almost overnight! Keep eyes peeled for extra copies around.
![]() | Philip-Lorca diCorcia: Heads by Philip-Lorca diCorcia
Buy used from: $118.75 His streetworks are the most important but this is a great book currently at a very low price. Portraits are stunningly raw and unstaged looking. He took street photography to a new level in this series. Despite it's low price I still believe it's one of his best books. ...edit: just went of print. Check your bookstore shelves quick.
![]() | Tom Sachs
Buy new: $93.64 / Used from: $148.20 Tom Sachs major monograph courtesy of Prada Fonzione. Amazing thick and luscious reproductions of his work. Expensive but well worth it if you can find below retail now.
![]() | Ed Ruscha: Then & Now by Ed Ruscha
Buy new: $112.81 / Used from: $52.65 One of the premier american artists today. Great book that is surprisingly still available. Pay attention to the condition on this one. I've seen a lot of these at bookstores where the book and case are pretty beat up. When these finally go out of print, the mint copies will go for a premium.
![]() | Rineke Dijkstra: Portraits
Buy used from: $81.95 Beautifully raw and portraits captured with Dijkstras cunning and sympathetic eye. Here first two monographs are now very collectible a nice buy at the Amazon discount price. Hopefully you got this before it just disappeared. Will probably be hitting triple digits eventually.
![]() | Hokkaido
Buy used from: $200.00 His monograph 'Japan" will forever be his most sought after book but Hokkaido is just as stunning and also very exquisitely packaged and still available in the first edition of a very limited run. I'm not so much into landscape photography but these transcend any normal expectations. Recommended!
