WOW! This book is such a precursor to Roth's 101 books. But it's more international - has a huge amount of historical information - and covers a lot of ground with great images. It's also bound like 101 - thick and high quality. BUY ASAP!

Half of the essential set of books for anyone who loves art, photography, and especially photography books. Still in print - hopefully forever. Volume 1 concentrates on historical books and just touches on contemporary ones. They work best together, but this one is better for background and classics, Vol. 2 is more contemporary.

A new and pretty great photo-book / artists book compilation from Germany. It's not in English, but the selection is superb, and much more up to date than the majority of the books on here.

For an exhibit in London about Artists Books, Elena Foster and Ivory Press have created an *gorgeous* exhibition catalogue. I dont have enough words allowed to talk about it, but it's spectacularly designed. large linen box with 40? three-panel fold out cards in different colors UNBOUND; one artist per card. The only problem is a lack of information. This is an object, not an investigation.

A GREAT, POWERFUL, IMPORTANT reference book. This is the PHOTO-JOURNALISM version of Roth's Book of 101 books. This book shows, with full page reproductions, the greatest and most important stories and articles... only those where the subject matter and the design - the photography mostly - come together. It's hard to describe, but there's a reason it won so many awards last year.

A selective but smart collection of international photo-books and artists books. From Bruce Nauman books and Andy Warhol's INDEX to 'Stephane Mallarme's 1914 Un Coup de Des Jamais N'Abolira le Hasard' - a picky but comprehensive book indeed.

A great collection of Japanese books - from Photo-books to artist books. Many important Roth/Parr reviewed books, like Kawada's The Map - are profiled here.

The Witness series is a good new publication from Nazraeli - one photographer gets to curate each issue. For Martin Parr's issue (#3), he has a decent essay on the mechanics of book-making (not binding - but producing).

A reprinted edition of one of the most famous books about artists books. While academic, it's pretty comprehensive - though doesn't touch down into photography.

An upcoming book, possibly a new standard for hand-made artists books ... comes out July 1, 2008.

Evidently one of the most important academic/reference book on the artist book. I'm waiting for my copy to arrive.
