Tripod is a must! This actually an acceptably tripod for beginners and those and with a decent $ tag price. Easy to set up, will hold an XSi, a battery pack and a Sigma 70-200 2.8, safely but errr... is the picture gonna be straight? Maybe not. Good buy for the money, if you don't wanna shell out $$$ for a Manfrotto
