Cosmic Trigger I : Final Secret of the Illuminati (Cosmic Trigger)Cosmic Trigger I : Final Secret of the Illuminati (Cosmic Trigger) by Robert A. Wilson
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $8.49
This book is essential for codifying important ideas about our 'reality tunnels' and techniques for altering them, and for soundly grasping multi-model thinking. This is also an excellent introduction to a wide range of Robert Anton Wilson's ideas, in the context of a narrative of a period of his own life. I highly recommend this as a starting point before advancing to any of the following books.
The Tree of Life: An Illustrated Study in MagicThe Tree of Life: An Illustrated Study in Magic by Israel Regardie
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $9.99
This is a broad-range introduction to Western magick. It's a good place to start.
Initiation into HermeticsInitiation into Hermetics by Franz Bardon
Buy new: $35.95 / Used from: $30.18
It's a gem. It's loaded with practical exercises. This might be the best book you'll ever buy. Don't immediately dismiss it based on the seemingly anachronistic conceptual vocabulary.
Modern Magick: Eleven Lessons in the High Magickal Arts (Llewellyn's High Magick)Modern Magick: Eleven Lessons in the High Magickal Arts (Llewellyn's High Magick) by Donald Kraig
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $6.00
I hesitated to include this one, since I haven't finished it yet myself, but I expect that 'finishing' it will be years away. This is a hardcore workbook. You'll spend much more time doing the work than reading it. Use it in parallel with other books. Forgive the hokey cover art.
Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of EverythingScience and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything by Ervin Laszlo
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $2.43
This was an interesting read. It's short, challenging, and of interest to those who are interested in the possible bridges between science and magick (or religion).
The Magick of Aleister Crowley: A Handbook of the Rituals of ThelemaThe Magick of Aleister Crowley: A Handbook of the Rituals of Thelema by Lon Milo Duquette
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $8.48
An excellent introduction to Crowley and Thelema. It includes a Crowley FAQ, the full text of the Book Of The Law, and a usable reference for rituals.
The Illuminatus! Trilogy: The Eye in the Pyramid, The Golden Apple, LeviathanThe Illuminatus! Trilogy: The Eye in the Pyramid, The Golden Apple, Leviathan by Robert Shea
Buy new: $13.60 / Used from: $3.92
A R.A.W. classic. More important to Discordianism than the Principia Discordia. Hysterically funny, and a psychedelic experience in itself. The mere act of reading it provokes and promotes multi-model thinking.
Liber Null & Psychonaut: An Introduction to Chaos MagicLiber Null & Psychonaut: An Introduction to Chaos Magic by Peter J. Carroll
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $8.49
Carroll is a deconstructionist of occult theory, and a mind-opening theorist himself. I highly recommend reading all of his books.
Liber KaosLiber Kaos by Peter J. Carroll
Buy new: $17.95 / Used from: $3.68
This one gets deeper (much deeper) into some of his pet theories about cosmogeny, the fabric of reality and the nature of time. Even if you aren't a fan of chaos magick, this one is worth checking out if you are intrigued by speculative physics.
Psybermagick: Advanced Ideas in Chaos MagicPsybermagick: Advanced Ideas in Chaos Magic by Peter J. Carroll
Buy used from: $29.00
Stylistically, this was written in imitation of Crowley's 'Book of Lies.' This means there is a lot of whitespace in an already thin book, so this is a very quick read.
Condensed Chaos: An Introduction to Chaos MagicCondensed Chaos: An Introduction to Chaos Magic by Phil Hine
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $10.00
If you made it through Peter Carroll, you'll probably want to read this one for some expanded perspective. If you did NOT like Carroll's approaches to his books, but were interested in some of the ideas, then you might find this one a better place to start.
Prometheus RisingPrometheus Rising by Robert Anton Wilson
Buy new: $16.95 / Used from: $37.35
This is an expansion upon Leary's 8 Circuit Model Of Consciousness. Bob discusses Transactional Analysis in many of his books, and this is his primary treatment of that subject.
Quantum Psychology: How Brain Software Programs You and Your WorldQuantum Psychology: How Brain Software Programs You and Your World by Robert Anton Wilson
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $10.96
One reviewer summed it up well: 'I truly had no idea the robotizing effect language has on our behavior and perceptions.' This is basically the follow-up to Prometheus Rising.
Glimpses of Abhidharma: From a Seminar on Buddhist PsychologyGlimpses of Abhidharma: From a Seminar on Buddhist Psychology by Chogyam Trungpa
Buy new: $12.44 / Used from: $4.95
This is an amazing read on Buddhist psychology. It's the best analysis of consciousness I've seen. These ideas can be very useful as an adjunct to meditation practices and general self-analysis.
The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient EgyptThe Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt by Three Initiates
Buy new: $10.99
This is a good supplement to 'Initiation Into Hermetics' listed above, as well as a concise treatment of the Hermetic school of occult philosophy.
Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-of-Body ExperiencesAstral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-of-Body Experiences by Robert Bruce
Buy new: $12.89 / Used from: $5.00
So far, I have not had an OBE, but I have had success with 'Virtual Reality,' which is basically lucid dreaming while awake but in a deep trance. This is a type of the 'astral' experience occult students are most commonly interested in (for pathworkings and 'astral' ritual), but with greater intensity. The energy work and awareness displacement exercises are effective.
Mastering Astral Projection: 90-day Guide to Out-of-Body ExperienceMastering Astral Projection: 90-day Guide to Out-of-Body Experience by Robert Bruce
Buy new: $14.93 / Used from: $11.93
The typical use of this workbook seems to be as a follow-up to Astral Dynamics. I did practice the exercises while reading AD, but I wasn't very disciplined. I'm now using this book to revisit and expand upon those practices.
Exploring the World of Lucid DreamingExploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge
Buy new: $7.50 / Used from: $3.55
The techniques work. I can confirm this from my own experiences in working with this book.
Art & Practice of Creative VisualizationArt & Practice of Creative Visualization by Ophiel
Buy used from: $29.99
I must preamble this by admitting that Ophiel is an atrocious writer, and parts of this book are terribly hokey, but there are some important ideas in here, treated in a way I haven't seen elsewhere. This is a valuable supplement to books listed above, especially to those enamored with CMT.
ValisValis by Philip K. Dick
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $3.40
If you are fascinated by Gnosticism, you'll probably love this one. If you were intrigued by Robert Anton Wilson's experiences in Cosmic Trigger: Volume 1, then you must read this book. It's a fictualized autobiographical account of Philip Dick's experiences that have eery synchronicities with Bob's. In fact, the two ended up corresponding with each other because of it.
The Dice ManThe Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart
Buy new: $14.35 / Used from: $3.91
An interesting examination of ego deconstruction through submission to chance/chaos, and the consequences involved in breaking through personal and societal taboos. It's a worthwhile read for anyone interested in or practicing ego deconstruction techniques. It's also a great novel with a lot of dark humor.
Finite and Infinite GamesFinite and Infinite Games by James P. Carse
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.20
This is an amazing little book. It's partially a poetic rendition of transactional psychology with its concept of 'infinite games' being like 'winner scripts,' but there is also a deeper philosophical message that can be appreciated by anyone with a taoist/buddhist/mystic/magickian leaning. It will make you re-think a lot of your attitudes towards everyday life.
The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of KnowledgeThe Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.82
I had to include at least one Carlos Castaneda book for completeness. While all of them are worthwhile, this is the first and most important if you read only one. This is a journey into the shamanic experience, with a lot of good concepts to apply to magickal and/or psychedelic work.
SiddharthaSiddhartha by Hermann Hesse
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $1.41
The message of this novel is profoundly important to seekers of wisdom.
Thoth: Tarot DeckThoth: Tarot Deck by Aleister Crowley
Buy new: $21.00 / Used from: $16.79
Regardless of your beliefs about divination, Tarot is a way of gaining insight into your subsurface thoughts and feelings by using archetypes to paint a conceptual picture to reflect upon. The more I use it, the more I value it.

Invite Bob into your living room. Come on, you know you want to.
Artmind - The Healing Power of Sacred Art with Alex GreyArtmind - The Healing Power of Sacred Art with Alex Grey
Buy new: $19.95 / Used from: $10.00
This is a remarkable interview with Alex Grey, and the slideshow gallery feature is alone worth the price of this DVD.
Mind Modulations Sirius Light & Sound Mind MachineMind Modulations Sirius Light & Sound Mind Machine
Buy new: $99.00
I'm not going to explain what this is to those not already familiar with these, but if you do have some familiarity with them and have been waiting for a decent price, this is the one I chose for the best balance between affordability and features. This is the lowest cost mind machine with white lights in the goggles, which gives a larger color range.
