Good for transitioning out of bottle, great for special needs child
I see a lot of people do not know how get their Nuby sippy to work well for them and I agree that if your child is prone to chew on a sippy top than this is probably not a great choice.
On the other hand, if you are trying to get a child from bottle to a hard top sippy or (preferably) a cup; you may want to try this sippy out.
My child has special needs and we are still on this sippy after a year. Yes, we have bought a lot of them. I have never seen a replacement top. I appreciate a cup that he will take easily and not spill. I was hoping this would have been a short lived sippy, but for him it is not.
The down side is this sippy will pool a little liquid on top if your child does not sip it all out (which means it's a tiny bit splashy at times) and the top is hard to clean if the child has a lot of food in their mouth.
I typically soak the tops in water and soap, though there are times I can't clean them and have to throw them out. This has been rare. More often I find that he has chewed on them and broken the valve which is creating messes around the house. For my child, that could take months before it needs to be replaced.
Sippys are annoying. I want my child to drink from a cup, but if your kid is like mine (or younger and needs to get off the bottle) - I think you will find this to be the best sippy on the market.
Good transition cup...
We used these cups for our daughter when we were transitioning from bottle to cup, at about 6 mo. old. They were great for a little while but with most teething babies, she started to bite and rip the nipple and that's where the trouble began. The way the nipples are designed to be spill-proof means that if your little one bites the nipple while drinking, the no-spill aspect begins to break down. Beyond that, there's small rubber pieces inside the nipple that if bitten, break out and become a choking hazard. The cups are great however for a baby without teeth but if your little one is prone to biting the cup, don't pick this one.
