About Diesel

Based in Molvena in northern Italy, Diesel was originally created in 1978 to create innovative clothing designs for young people, particularly jeans. Founder Renzo Rosso wanted the company to take chances and he surrounded himself with creative, talented people who, like himself, rejected the slavish trend following typical of the fashion industry. Today, the company views the world as a single, border-less macro-culture, and the Diesel staff reflects this: a cosmopolitan team that creates an unpredictable, dynamic vitality and energy within the company.

Over the years, Diesel has expanded into bags, eyewear, fragrances, jewelry and watches--which it refers to as Time Frames. These timepieces feature highlight bold, durable designs and a dynamic fashion aesthetic that plays with retro stylings from the 1970s and 1980s (including digital watches from that era) to outlandish futuristic designs that are emblematic of the youth of now. Diesel also likes to add a modern twist to classic conventions of timepiece design with wide leather watchbands, oversized numeric displays, and mixing a cacophony of subdials and digital displays on the same face.

Customer Reviews

Sleek, but good luck setting it, or actually seeing the time!3
The watch LOOKS fantastic. However, I was definitely disappointed:

1. The programming booklet that comes with it does not actually contain the directions on how to program this particular model. I called Diesel and a customer service person only had that same booklet to refer to, and could not help me. I called the Diesel/Fossil store nearest me (nearly an hour away) and they could not help over the phone as they only had the very same book I had to refer to. They recommended I make the (one hour) drive to see it if someone there could set it. AAAAARGH.

2. In the illustration, the read-out looks fine. But the truth is that the light behind the digital numbers is actually very dim, even when you press the button to increase the light.

It's a gorgeous, sleek watch but I was a bit embarrassed to give it as a gift once I realized how hard it was to actually read, and that there was no way for the thing to be programmed.

Good design, some function lacking3
I've had this watch for about a week now. I really like its design and have gotten many compliments on it. I own the all black version of this watch.

Pros:
* Great design. The chunky casing with the wide black leather band gives an unmistakably unique look that turns heads.
* Controls are easy to use and watch function is easily learned once you have spent some time with the manual. The buttons are large and easy to press.
* The crystal guard grill that wraps around the watch face protects the face from scratches.
* Strap works well and is comfortable.
* Has two time zones, chronometer with split/lap, timer with three modes - count down and stop, count down and repeat, count up, and four separate alarms.

Cons:
* The display is hard to read in low light conditions. Pitch dark is not a problem, as there is a night light function. However, intermediate lighting makes it hard to read the time at a glance as the display is passive.
* Some of the display is obscured by the crystal guard grill.
* The smaller elements of the display, like the 'p' for time, as well as the flags in the bottom left quadrant that indicate functions such as chronometer, timer, Time1, Time2 etc. are almost impossible to see. This is the biggest drawback on this watch and might be a deal breaker for some.

I'd buy another5
I just got this watch today and like it already. I read a lot of reviews saying it was hard to program. I'm not sure what gave these other reviewers so much trouble. It took me 30 seconds to program and is set up EXACTLY like every other digital watch I've ever owned.

The watch is nice and chunky, just like I like my watches. It looks good dressed up or down, is relatively light weight, and fits my ridiculously skinny wrist.

I might buy one in brown too...
