Straightforward, TASTY recipes; many more than you get in the basic book5
I was very surprised to see the other review for this book, but then I saw the line about the person NOT owning it. I preordered this book, and like the other reviewer, felt that the recipes would be the same...however, I forgot to cancel the preorder, so lo and behold, it arrived at my house in mid-December. This has become my FAVORITE diet cookbook! Unlike the South Beach Diet cookbooks, which contained laundry lists of ingredients and yielded usually unflavorful dishes, the Alli Cookbook contains (1) many, many more recipes than are found in the main book--250 pages of recipe text alone, (2) food for a large variety of tastes including vegetarian, (3) carefully thought out and easy to prepare dishes, (4) creative and interestingly seasoned dishes, and (5) dishes you would never think you would find in a diet cookbook. I am somewhat of a picky eater when it comes to "healthy foods" and I was still able to find dozens of recipes to suit my tastes. The bottom line is that this cookbook has helped me succeed on the Alli plan by adding needed variety and easy-to-cook dishes to my meal plan -- so much so, that even when I get busy and forget to take the pills for several days, I still lose weight and almost never feel deprived. I don't think I would be at the point in the diet with the recipes in the Alli Diet Plan book alone, and I credit this cookbook. (Since starting the diet in mid-November, I've lost 15 pounds, even with some cheating around the holidays, and I'm within 10 pounds of my overall goal.) If you want to enhance your chance for success on the Alli plan and want to enjoy some really flavorful dishes, you need to add this book to your Alli toolkit!

Basic recipes3
I was slightly disappointed with this book. A few years ago I bought the book Cooking Thin with Kathleen Daelemans. Her book was amazing and full of interesting, unique, simple dishes. When I saw that she was one of the contributing chefs for the Alli cookbook, I bought it even though I'm not following the Alli plan. The recipes in this book seemed pretty much like the recipes you would get in any diet book. There was nothing I found too interesting.

Another downside for the people who are actually following the Alli plan is that the nutrition facts included are for a complete meal, not just that recipe. For example, if you're cooking the chicken in red wine sauce, they recommend completing the meal with a medium baked potato, a tablespoon of low-fat sour cream, a cup and a half of mesclun salad with fat-free Italian dressing, swiss cheese, and slivered almonds. While I like that they include recommendations on how to finish the meal, they include all of those components in the nutrition facts. So you have no idea what the numbers are on just the chicken in red wine sauce.

Delicious, Easy Cookbook with Great Variety!5
I started taking alli two months ago, and I've had good success (already lost 6 pounds!), but I realized I am going to need some more variety in my daily meals to keep things going--this cookbook is the perfect answer. The recipes are really yummy, fast and easy--and they've even paired each recipe up with simple side dishes that complete the meal and give you all the nutritional info so you can stay "alli-friendly." When I make these recipes, I don't feel like I'm dieting--I'm eating healthier, but it's still delicious! The pull-out restaurant guide is very helpful too--I just stick it in my purse so I can have it handy when I'm eating out.
