Customer Reviews
This isn't a Multi-Coated Filter
The price was great, but actually looking at the filter I can see clearly this isn't what I was hoping for -- there's no multi-coating.
You can test this by looking at a reflection of a light source on its surface: a perfect reflection indicates no coating, a dim reflection indicates a single coating, and a green reflection indicates multiple coatings. This filter mirrors reflections perfectly, which means it's just untreated glass. (sigh)
Good filter for a good price - but not truly multi-coated
I bought this filter to use mainly as a lens protector for my Tamron 17-55mm f/2.8 lens (Canon XTi). This is a great option if you're on a budget but don't want to sacrifice quality. The glass doesn't rattle around inside the frame like one of my Canon brand UV filters, and it screws onto the Tamron lens securely. The Tamron lens cap also fits perfectly with this filter (which is made in Japan). However, it is not truly multi-coated; I noticed some green "ghosts" in my photos while taking pictures of some fire dancers at a luau. I'd look for something else if you are going for a true multi-coated filter, but if you just want a cheap yet sturdy filter to use as protection, this one is worth considering.
Perfect Protector
Perfect for a lens protector. I don't notice a change in the coloring at all, but its a great protector for lenses. I have a Nikon D90 and it fits my lens perfectly. (I have a 18-105mm) Great price too.
