Fantastic Earphones!!!
Pros: Sound quality
Noise reduction
Quality of make
Style
Cons: Price
Foam tips (based on personal experience)
Overall: Excellent product though pricey. I highly recommended this to anyone looking for great sounding monitors that also block out a large amount of noise and are willing to pay quite a bit of money.
Full review:
I recently bought the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 because I had heard that Ultimate Ears is an excellent brand for monitors. I was not let down by these earphones. They provide excellent sound quality and even better noise reduction. They are on the pricey side but I personally believe that they are worth it. Some downsides are that the foam ear tips don't provide as good a seal as they were hyped up to give, (this is a personal opinion and could change depending on the ear canal size). The quality of the wire is very good and it is not coated with the sticky kind of plastic, therefore the wire does not stick together and is less likely to get tangled. The case was a nice touch though for this price i would have liked to get the metallic case that comes with the Triple.Fi monitors. The silicone tips that Ultimate Ears provides formed a good seal for my ear and they provide a relatively large array of sizes for different ear canal sizes. The only downside I found, besides the price, was that when you push the earbud into your ear at some point the sound disappears but when the seal is placed properly the sound comes back. This is just a minor setback and could very well be an isolated case
Great Headphones
I am not an audiophile, but my previous headphones were the Ultimate Ears' Super.Fi 3 and these are much crisper in sound. I went through a pair of wires for the super.fi 3 and instead of buying a third set, I decided to upgrade to Super.Fi 5. Most of the review concentrates on comparing both.
The cable is much more delicate but it allows the wires to be wrapped much more easily. This may be a problem at the gym, but I have yet to try. It is also a lot shorter than the Super.Fi 3.
The package did not come with any booklet (the Super.fi 3 did) and the headphone case is pretty pathetic for what you pay. It looks like a dental floss package w/o the floss inside. The Super.Fi 3 came in a nice aluminum(?) or metallic-feeling case, but it scratched pretty easily. It was also bigger.
You are also given a set of four different-sized pairs of rubber buds, a pair of foam buds, a cleaner, and a spare foam bud. Unlike the Super.Fi 3 as well, there isn't a set of staggered buds.
I am happy with my purchase, but it was twice the price I paid for the Super.Fi 3. If you aren't an audiophile, and budget is a concern, you can probably get away w/ the Super.Fi 3. But I made the change and there is a pretty significant difference in sound quality.
Noise isolating they are indeed
If you are in the market for some ear buds with very high sound quality and extreme noise isolation you will be quite satisfied with these. I'm not even kidding if I have these on and I'm listening to music, even at a lower volume, I cannot hear someone next to me screaming.
I would say I'm not a huge fan of the silicone tips but the foam tips are amazing. The silicone tips aren't bad or anything but they tend to fall out a lot easier. I would also note that you get four sizes of the silicone tips as opposed to only two foam.
