About Malibu Solar Lights and Light Kits
Solar lighting is the safest and easiest kind of outdoor lighting to install. It provides sufficient light for entrances, walkways, steps, or to indicate the location of dark obstacles. Each light fixture features a solar collector panel that converts sunlight into electrical energy. This energy is stored in rechargeable batteries used to illuminate the fixture at night. The batteries recharge in direct sunlight and should not have to be replaced for at least three years. Most solar products use LED (Light Emitting Diodes) as a light source because of their low power consumption and long life. LEDs are not replaceable, but their life expectancy typically exceeds 25 years, running 10 hours every night.

EVERYBODY loves mine...RETRACTED!!!5
When I first received these, I thought they were awesome, but after being out in the Texas sun and heat for only one summer, these lamps are pitiful looking. The plastic is very inferior and has become dull and bittle. The spikes were basically useless from the start so we threw them away and placed the hollow poles on rebar which keeps them straight and sturdier. We continue to use these because they are still really cool looking at night, but there is no way they will make another summer. If Malibu would improve the over-all quality, these would still be rated five stars by me because the artificial flame really is realistic looking.

Cheap Plastic Poles1
The first day I got these, I loved them. The lights themselves are really cool. But within a few days of being outside, the cheap plastic poles got soft from the sun and the lights began to sag. Within a week, they sagged so much that one of them broke under the weight of the light on the end. I wish I had kept the box, I would definitely have returned them to get my money back.

Not bad for the right price, but know what you're getting3
The overall product isn't bad as long as you wait for a deal for something under 20. The shaft comes in sections and I did think they would break or split when I was putting them together aso be careful. Also take the time to carefully spike them, especially in hard ground since the stake and shaft are flimsy but do OK once in place. Don't plan on easily disassembling and reassembling as the joints are very tight and I doubt they will hold up to multiple assy/disassy.

As for the light, the implementation isn't bad and the flickering is pretty decent, but a little mechanical. The light it gives off isn't equal to a regular Tiki so be aware that they are for decoration, not lighting for the most part. So if you are looking for a way to light your outdoor party, don't rely on these as your primary light source. They are decorative only and even then, I'm not sure they are what I wanted. to each his own.

Finally, there is no way to turn them off short of removing the batteries. And removing the batteries is no easy chore - they are in there tight. So I took some tie wraps and snipped the little ends off to create some tabs I could slip in between the positive post on the battery. I wouldn't think you'd want to store these long term with fully discharged batteries. That being said, it's nice they use regular rechargeables so that you can replce if needed.
