Customer Reviews

One of Safari's best5
This is an excellent figure. Apparently trained experts on marine fossils gave Safari tips on designing this figure to make it as accurate as possible. So short of getting in a time machine and going back to the Cretaceous period to photograph one of those amazing sea lizards, this figure has been created based on information from the best possible source!

The jaws, the eyes, the fins: everything about this figure is sleek and realistic. The colors are a nice departure from the usual blue-gray dorsal markings most people expect from sea-going predators, without making the figure look ridiculous. If young tylosaurs had dark green stripes like this figure, the markings may have been a form of camalfauge, making it easier for a youngster living in a reef to hide from large sharks and bigger tylosaurs that wanted to eat it. Or perhaps the stripes would have broke up a hunting tylosaur's outline as it stalked hapless mollusks, fish, and sea turtles in the Mesozoic seas.

There are not many mosasaur figures available, many being limit edition items no longer produced, so having a new figure to add to the collection is great. Whether you're a full-time trained paleontologist with a PhD or a figure collector with an interest in prehistoric marine life, this is a nice item to display in a case or use as a paper weight in the office. And for the kids: get this tylosuarus, a few shark figures, and replace the rubber ducky with a pterandon and bath time becomes a trip to the Western Interior Sea that existed eighty or so million years ago over what is now the American Mid-west! Now all we need are few ammonite figures as snacks...

It's really nice to see the increased interest in marine animals from the past. With various TV series making the public more aware of these amazing critters, it's only fitting that a fine company like Safari is producing figures of these beasties.
