Customer Reviews
GTX 280 OC
Well, I bought the card mainly so I could support my third monitor. I had a nVidia 8800 GTS already but needed another card for triple monitor support. I debated long and hard whether to get the GTX 280 vs the GTX 260. Price difference was about $80 or so and I figured since I was upgrading I might as well upgrade to something that will last much longer. I play the racing simulator Live For Speed, and this card is able to handle the game at highest detail settings with 60fps at a resolution of 5040x1050... I use SoftTH to support triple monitors in the game. This was worth the buy for me!
My take
I bought this card recently when I completely upgraded my computer.
It came as advertised. It can be a bit of a power hog,so make sure you have the power supply to handle it.
The performance is amazing.....
It handles any game thrown at it with relative ease, one of the "tests" for this card is Crysis, but it handles high game settings quite well.
I cannot see paying the extra 150-200 bucks for a 285-295 card as this one performs quite well.
I,like a few others were concerned about heat as I plan on a second 280 OC to run my system in SLI.
After contacting BFG about heat issues, their response was the card is good up to 140c,plus Nvidia has a system performance application that makes it extremely easy to change the cards fan setting to facilitate better cooling.
I can play Crysis under load and never get a temperature over 80c.
I reccomend this card..in fact buy two and really have some fun.
Nice card but I'm disappointed with Amazon.
This review is more toward the product coming from Amazon than the card itself. The card itself so far seems to be fine and work ok even though I have only had it for a day. What does concern me is that when I got the product it was shrink wrapped but once I opened it I found that the anti-static bag seal had 2 other broken seals under it. This card seems like it is not new but was sold as new. It wasn't dirty but did have dust and fingerprints on it. Very disappointing when you are paying over $400 for a item and it looks like it was already used. I registered the card and it has a lifetime warranty so I decided to keep it rather than go through the hassle of getting another since it seems ok.
