My fiance and I spend many an evening winding down after dinner but before bedtime by tackling a puzzle together. Working together on it in real time is so rewarding when you're done, and no one's vying for the best view or elbow room the way you would on paper. Very satisfying.

Buy new: $8.79 / Used from: $13.95 A little tedious at first, but then, I took over 5 years of French...focuses too much on vocabulary and not enough on conjugation, grammar, and spontaneous sentence formation. But it's nice to jog your dusty memory, and the dictionary is very handy.

Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $16.99 I got this for the holidays from some friends. It was so addictive I finished it in less than 3 days, which was kind of a bummer when it was finished! Luckily you can continue downloading puzzles even after you're done. Thought the story's closure was a tad silly, but I still can't wait for the next version. It's like those Mensa puzzle books I used to pore over as a child. Fun.

And they emphasize how much fun this is for couples working collaboratively DS to DS, which is my new favorite way to play. Aaand I like the idea of modular worlds...so!

Buy new: $8.79 / Used from: $17.95 The franchise seems focused on beginners, at least based on my experience with My French Coach. This could be good for wannabe me to pick up some basic Chinese words. I don't expect to learn much in a native sense, but if it helps my vocabulary for reading Chinese classics with better in-depth word comprehension and visual recognition of characters (my priority really), then that's fine by me!
