2009 Edition

Product Description

This updated edition of Birnbaum's Disneyland Resort, the most respected and well-known name in Disney guides, takes readers through Walt Disney's first theme park with ease and flair. Since our guide is the only guide that's official, this book includes the most accurate and current information on prices and attractions. This edition includes details on some big changes brewing at Disney's California Adventure (including an entire new "land" themed to the hit Disney.Pixar film Cars!), and we give readers the whole scoop.

Other updates include an insider's look at the expansion of Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa, tips on how to catch the "Wildcat fever" at the peppy new show: "High School Musical 2-School's Out!", expanded coverage of the popular "Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island", and descriptions of all the latest happenings at Downtown Disney District

Our guide is also the only one allowed to feature Disney characters. And Birnbaum's Disneyland Resort is the most comprehensive guidebook, offering complete information on the Magic Kingdom, Disney's California Adventure, and Downtown Disney, as well as details about Anaheim area attractions, things to do in Los Angeles, and special driving routes around Southern California. This is the only guide to Disneyland that readers need, entirely updated every year.

Ok, but too "official"3
This guide is comprehensive in that it describes very briefly every ride, restaurant, and shop. My problem with it is that it isn't objective at all. It is the "Official Disney Guide" so it isn't frank about which rides are kind of lame, not worth standing in line for, etc. There aren't many tips or secrets either. In the end, this guide just doesn't have much substance. It is a fine introduction to the park if you haven't been there, but for the real skinny on Disneyland, I like the "Unofficial Guide" series much better.

Not quite up to Birnbaum's usual standards3
Having purchased several different editions of the Birnbaum's guides for Walt Disney World (including the "for Kids" edition), this Disneyland edition just doesn't seem as complete. The restaurant information seems lacking in detail and the rides/attractions seem incomplete (nothing, for instance, about the mini-attractions in Flick's Fun Fair for little kids). Maybe this is more of an issue of incomplete/inadequate editorial review, but I am not as satisfied as I usually am with Birnbaum's quality as the "official" guide of Disney Parks. Stil, the colorful pages, pictures, maps, are helpful and the size is convenient.

I didn't learn a single thing.2
Birnbaum's old guide to European cities was an incredible resource. So I guess I expected great things from this guide since it's marketed under the Birnbaum name.

I was disappointed. This book might be alright if you have never ever been to Disneyland before. But for anyone else, it's pretty much a waste of paper and ink. I didn't learn a single thing from reading this book.
