What if demons were streaming through a tear in the fabric of reality, invading Earth by the thousands? What if you were the only one who could shut them out? Would you turn tail and run, dodging your responsibilities? Or would you get tough, cowgirl up, and take the bull by the horns?
That is exactly what our heroine, Sunny Acres, vows to do. When she receives a calling from God in the form of a heavenly body named Jakeh, she gets an offer she can’t refuse. She and three hunky military men are bound together as the Armor of God, charged with waging war with the forces of darkness and evil. The four are given extraordinary powerssome for violence, and some for pleasure, a combination that proves to be a volatile mixture. When evil threatens Sunny’s hometown of San Antonio, Texas, watch out, because Hell hath no fury like a woman in cowboy boots packing lead. And the bad guys better be ready, because if they’re going to be stupid, they’d better be tough. Sunny and her men will cut them no slack, and mercy is not an option. Blood will be shed and lives will be lost in an epic battle where the entire future of mankind is at stake.

A thrilling supernatural adventure
Sunny Acres is just an ordinary woman; however, she is about to be called upon to do extraordinary things. While she is sleeping, she is visited by a man who takes her to a place between heaven and hell where she is shown a vision of the End Days. Her guide tells her that she is one of four who will make up the Armor of God, and it will be their duty to battle the demons that will be invading the earth. He then takes her to a cavern in Iraq where there are four soldiers. Three of these soldiers are to make up the rest of the Armor. He marks them all and tells her to remember them for they will be looking for her. Is she ready for the responsibility that has fallen in her lap?
Several months pass, and Sunny is quite ready to try out her new powers and do her part to save the world when low and behold there is a demon outbreak. The problem is that she has no back up and only she can see the demons. She discovers that by touching people she can open their spiritual eyes so that they, too, can see the demons. She enlists the help of a few friends to help fight the demons so she can close the demon gate. The escapade reveals her identity to the wrong crowd, but also to her group of soldiers. Will they believe her when she tells them that she is the final piece of the Armor? Will they be able to defeat the demons that are determined to take over the earth?
Ginger Rodgers has penned a creative and unique tale. SUNNY SIDE UP is an amazing action-packed story. I thought it was a fun, fast-paced read. I like having a strong heroine, and Sunny is definitely strong, as well as smart and sassy. The other characters help to add depth to the story and their burgeoning powers create interesting battle scenes. This looks to be a promising new series and I can't wait to see what further adventures await the fated four.
It is not Christian Fiction, nor meant to be.
Sunny Acres was sleeping peacefully in her bed when the next thing she knew she was in a beautiful meadow. A tall, dark stranger took her many places that night, including a glimpse of Hell. No joke--this was a real experience. The next thing she knew she was in Iraq in a bunker with three soldiers. They couldn't see her but she saw them. This was her first look but in no way her last look at a rip in the universe that allowed demons to come through.
The sexy man, Jakeh, is a messenger of God. He isn't an angel. He says he's human. He doesn't live on earth but he doesn't live in heaven either. That's all the clues she has to his identity but he is to help her with the job she is entrusted with. She is one quarter of the Shield of God.
Jakeh tells her in time she will meet the three soldiers and they will embark on a quest to find the demons coming through the rips.
I'm not sure that I'd call this Christian Fiction even in a modern sense. It reminded me of some science fiction/fantasy movies I had seen as a child with lots of evil demons and the good guys fighting them to the death. I could see it as a movie with all kinds of special effects.
What bothered me was the strong thread of sex between Jakeh and Sunny as well as strong sexual tension between Sunny and Stone, another part of the Shield of God. It just didn't seem appropriate in Christian Fiction. As a work of general fiction even, it's a bit over done for the story line.
