42-Inch Vizio GV42L Widescreen LCD HDTV - Refurbished, Grade A42-Inch Vizio GV42L Widescreen LCD HDTV - Refurbished, Grade A
The GV42L is a decent LCD HDTV, and at an MSRP of US$1200 it balances economy with display quality. It can display 720p natively, and handle up to 1080i input resolution. For those who prefer plasma, look at the Vizio P50HD for a similar product.

I've specifically stayed away from either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray players for the moment, that format war is far from over. Instead, I picked a solid upconverting DVD player. This has garnered the highest reviews I've seen on most home theater and DVD enthusiast publications, and the price is a pittance compared to my first DVD player - the Sony DVP-S7000.

And finally, who can live without TiVo? The Series3 has dual CableCard slots, so two programs can be recorded at the same time. I wish there was something better on the market, but Cable Labs has been dragging their feet on deploying CableCard V2 for quite some time. This means you won't be able to use your local cable station's On Demand or Program Guide features if available.
