Sounds better than expected and keeps the water out5
I bought the Ego to use while sailing in a small boat and while at the pool. Recently, I started kayaking in ocean water and took the Ego with me.

The sound quality is much, much better than I expected. It produces good bass and treble for a product of this size that is water resistant.

Water resistance is also very good. I've dropped it into the ocean at least twice while kayaking. Both times, it was completely submerged and it went in face down. While kayaking, water continually dribbled over it as well. No water entered into the unit and it continued playing my music with no problems at all despite the fact that the speakers were wet.

While it works with all Ipods (except the iphone), it has a standard audio plug and thus can work with any MP3 player or radio that will fit inside the compartment.

It also has a waterproof membrane that lets you control your ipod by pushing on the click wheel and scrolling through your songs or changing the volume. In addition, it has its own volume buttons that do not control the Ipod volume.

My only complaint is that once the unit gets wet, the ability scroll using the scroll wheel disappears. I guess that once it is wet, the membrane isn't conducting your finger swipes to the ipod. You can still click, you just can't control your IPOD's volume or scroll through songs. I assume that this is a function of the physics of water and I don't really blame Ego for this. The unit has its own volume control which works independent of the Ipod.

So, as long as you choose your playlist in advance and set the Ipod volume at a correct level before everything gets wet, you can still control the volume using the volume buttons on the Ego and you can still skip songs by clicking on the click wheel. However, if you unintentionally set your volume too low or you want to choose another playlist, you'll have to dry it and your fingers off before you can fix it.

Works just like it should5
I have been using the Ego Soundcase for a couple months now, and I can safely say it definitely works like it should. I personally like the retro-feel of the clear plastic case, and i'll comment on the sound and waterproof nature of the speakers

First, the sound.

The sound is much better than what you would expect from the tiny speakers. Its decent for use outdoor use, and unless you're standing next to a waterfall you should be able to hear your music by the pool. The bass is not as loud as some competitors but you can hear it fine, the mid and treble compares with the others just fine.
overall volume is a lot louder than needed, especially if you use it in the shower or somewhere indoors or private.

Moving on to Waterproofness.

I use my Soundcase in the shower mostly. I've read the above review and I can say that he has not used the showcase at all! I have dunked mine in the tub, the pool, taken a shower splashing it, and floated around with it in the pool. My Soundcase has survived through all of that with my ipod 100% dry. The only thing you have to do when taking it out is to dry your hands first, which is not a big deal to me. An awesome effect is to splash a little bit of water onto the speakers while something bassy like techno or hip hop is playing and watching the water from the bass.

I was pretty scared about dropping it in water at first so I tried it without the ipod. NO problems at all. then i did it with the ipod inside. NO problems at all. my only gripe is that it cant go more than a meter underwater but i dont think i'd really want to do that anyway.

all in all a solid product. A great companion in the shower for me, and livens up the place when i go to the pool.

Pretty decent4
I've had the EGO sound case for about a month, and it's really pretty decent. The sound is better than I expected, and not directional at all so you can still hear pretty well if it's pointed away from you. I don't believe I've gotten this wet, but I feel pretty comfortable taking it to the beach and the pool. The click wheel is functional, but not great, so the best approach is to use a playlist so you don't have to go searching too often. One drawback is volume -- it's good for listening when you are close, but it doesn't pump enough volume for, say, a large group.
