Product Description

Ultimate Dog Grooming reveals the secrets of the industry's top groomers. Featuring more than 500 full-color photographs and hundreds more step-by-step sketches of grooming techniques, this book provides specifics for 170 dog breeds.

The first section of the book covers caring for and grooming a pet dog: how to keep its coat healthy; tips for routine care; how to bathe a dog; and how to choose a groomer. The second section covers grooming as a profession, including starting a grooming business; choosing and buying equipment; how to detect coat and skin disorders; and tips on handling problems that commonly arise.

The third section covers specific grooming information for the 170 individual breeds. Each chapter is dedicated to a type of coat and then further organized into step-by-step instructions for grooming each breed from start to finish. Insider tips on preparing a dog for show are also included.

Ultimate Dog Grooming is the ideal reference for learning how to clip, strip and blow-dry a dog. Pet owners as well as professional groomers, handlers, trainers and dog-daycare specialists will treasure this definitive reference book.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
This large-format, colorfully illustrated handbook will find a place on library shelves where a good, general instruction manual for grooming one's own pet and even establishing oneself as a professional groomer is called for. The text is to the point and attractively arrayed across the page. The first chapter covers basic coat types, and subsequent chapters present information on maintenance of a healthy coat and on routine coat care. The path to creating a grooming career is carefully laid out, and most of the book is given over to the grooming needs of specific breeds of dogs. Brad Hooper

Customer Reviews

Pretty good - great photos4
The author has more of a UK/European-centric view of things, meaning she focuses more on hand-stripping certain breeds than clipping them, as is more the custom in the US. That's not a bad thing, as there isn't enough info in US books about hand-stripping and her pattern illustrations are nice and can be adapted to clipping. The breed and step-by-step photos are beautiful. This actually would be a good book to keep in a grooming salon lobby for customers to see.

Great for would be groomers4
I found this book to be full of helpful information with clear instructions and explanations. The pictures are excellent. After reading this anyone would feel comfortable approaching any type of coat. It would be perfect to have in front of you in the salon and it lists every item needed for each design. It goes into great detail of the more tricky styles, as well as combatting any problems. All the info is here. Well worth the purchase.I see myself keeping this one for many, many years to come.

Good book4
Has many breeds not covered in other books, still left some out but good variety. Nice color pictures of the breeds, I am currently working in a salon where the girls don't know many of the breeds by sight, this book has really helped them.
