excellent addition to your advent "stash"
This book does an excellent job of covering all the "basics" of the advent season. I want to stress that this book is basic. If you are looking for detailed litergical explainations this is not the book.

This book can be used for homes and classroom settings. I would say this book would be appropriate for any age in the family setting. (because you would make personal family adaptations) In the classroom setting I would say this can be used for primary and secondary elementary students.

Helpful information at the beginning of each section. It gives you an "objective" of what the activities are focusing on in each section. Here is a short statement from week two: 'Because we're also preparing their hearts for the coming Prince of Peace, this week contains peace-making activities'.

Each week (or chapter) starts out with a story. Each week has daily bible verses and a response/prayer. Appropiate crafts are included as well as a few easy recipes. For the classroom setting, each week has a "take-home" family page. The book has reproducible pages so that you do not have to draw or create your own templates. (thank goodness!) The last section also includes many reproducible word finds, mazes, pictures, etc. EXCELLENT for the classroom. On a personal note, I must say that I was pleased with this section. There were a few easy pictures for my preschoolers to color and a few challenging pages for my 10 year old.

This book includes a Birthday Party for Jesus. It has invitiations, cake and game ideas.

This year our family is doing the stories and the reponses. But we are also doing/trying: Paper Chain Advent Calendar; Making Ornaments (recipe); Helping Hands Coupons; Potato-Stamp Note Cards; Wreath Treats; Bird Feeders; Gift Bags; Trail Mix; Peppermint Bark; some of the b-day party games and some of the reproducible pages.
