Inject instant Christmas cheer into your household with an album of the songs loved and associated most with the holiday season...

I am sure many of you will be asking, "what sets this particular Christmas release apart from those previous?" In short, the 1997 American CD "Personal Christmas Collection" and the 2003 UK re-issue of "The Doris Day Christmas Album" only represent some/not all of Doris's festive recordings. What you get with this beautifully presented 2008 release is a definitive collection of everything relating to this theme including a cute Christmas greeting from Doris which was originally recorded for her 1970s TV sitcom.

Product Description

Your ticket to the greatest Christmas Day ever a 22-track collection containing her complete holiday-themed recordings, plus some unreleased material! We ve gone deep into the Columbia vaults and even into Doris private collection for this one; the first 12 tracks hail from her beloved 1964 release The Doris Day Christmas Album, and include Silver Bells; I ll Be Home for Christmas; Snowfall; Toyland; Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!; Be a Child at Christmas Time; Winter Wonderland; The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire); Christmas Present; Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas; The Christmas Waltz, and White Christmas. Then, I ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm comes from the ambitious Hooray for Hollywood double-album that she recorded with Frank DeVol in 1959, while Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly (first U.S. release!) is the only finished song from a shelved holiday album Doris began with DeVol that same year. Here Comes Santa Claus; Ol Saint Nicholas; Christmas Story; Silver Bells, and The Christmas Song (with Les Brown & His Orchestra) are all single sides she cut for Columbia from 1946 to 1950, while Silent Night and Christmas Greeting from Doris are unreleased tracks, the first from her early- 50s radio show, the second from her late- 60s TV show for CBS. The set winds up with an emotionally-charged reading of Let No Walls Divide taken from the all-star Christmas album We Wish You the Merriest Columbia released in 1951 to promote stars like Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin and Andre Previn as well as Doris. We can t think of a vocal star we d rather have over for Christmas we think this Collectors Choice Music exclusive will be a perennial holiday favorite in your home for years to come. Merry Christmas!

Customer Reviews

Absolutely PERFECT for bringing the Christmas spirit!5
WOW! DOUBLE WOW!! I used to listen to Doris Day's 1964 "The Doris Day Christmas Album", from which the first 12 songs of this CD come from, when I was a kid! My brother and I would wake up early in the morning, turn on our Christmas tree lights, make some Postum (if you're too young to know who Doris Day is you probably don't know what Postum is, google it!) and listen to the 1964 album on my mom and dad's record player contained in their massive wood chest stereo. My wife gave me a copy of a friend's Doris Day album several years ago but I realized today it does not have her 1964 version of "Silver Bells" on it. However, this CD has both the 1946 version AND the 1964 version of "Silver Bells"; the 1964 version is muuuuch more soft and velvety with a relaxing, gorgeous orchestral accompaniment (sp?) to it.

Why is the original 1964 "The Doris Day Christmas Album" so fantastic? It isn't just because of fond memories my brother and I shared, but also because her renditions of classic Christmas songs is sooooo wonderful; the instrumental parts are sweetly melodious and Doris's silky, clear voice never fails to conjure up images of warm fireplaces with flames dancing about while you snuggle with your sweetheart next to a 10 foot tall Christmas tree in your impeccably clean and luxuriously Holiday-decorated home. THAT'S the kind of Christmas experience we all crave.

I've read quite a few comments on Amazon of Doris Day fans wishing that someone would put out a CD with ALL of her 1964 album renditions on it plus Doris's other Christmas songs. This "Doris Day-Complete Christmas Collection" is it! Other non-1964 album songs, like "Christmas Story", also share the same rich quality as her other 1964 songs.

Buy it! You'll absolutely LOVE it!

That Old Christmas Feeling5
If this cd does not put you in the Christmas mood nothing will.
Quiet, soothing and sweet this will take you back to those days of
Christmas parties and happy times. Even if your not a Doris fan (not that this is possible) you will love it.Some of the songs I had heard before some not but here they all are with a special holiday greeting from Doris herself. Christmas has passed but I still put this on.
I give this the highest rating I can. Buy it now you wont be sorry.

NOTHING BETTER5
The Complete Christmas Collection by Doris Day is JUST THAT! Every deejay in America and round the world should be playing this on the hour every hour. It has some of the best versions of standard Christmas songs ever recorded. Judy Garland singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"? FORGET IT...NOBODY sings it like Doris. And there are two different versions of "SILVER BELLS"..BOTH FANTASTIC. "Let It Snow" and "Winter Wonderland" actually become sexy songs. And the reverent 'SILENT NIGH", now has THE DEFINITIVE VERSION. you must OWN this CD!!!
