Amazon.com Product Description
The Chard sandal is Dr. Marten's Rx for cool comfort and style. This fashionable slide is outfitted on the Doc's signature chunky PVC welted sole and features a multi-strap leather upper, with contrast stitching and subtle metal hardware. Your feet will celebrate when they hit the well-cushioned footbeds, which are lined in soft suede.

From the Manufacturer
Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Customer Reviews

Slide is comfortable but too big and too wide.3
I purchased this pair of Dr. Marten Chard sandals and had to return them. They were purchased for my niece, Marilyn who wears a size 6.5 shoe. I had read many reviews, most of which recommended buying a half size smaller. Taking that advice, I purchased a size 6. Though the shoe was very comfortable, it was too wide and a bit too big. I wear a size 7M and they fit me perfectly, maybe a size 5 would be a better fit for her because I could not find a 5.5. Also, I don't know if the extra width is common with the Chard slide or all Dr. Martens slides/sandals.

So cute on, but slightly uncomfortable.4
These are absolutely adorable. They look great with any outfit! I bought the brown and the black version. Dr. Marten is usually good for people with wide feet...but right under my toes that first leather strap is tight on me. I haven't worn them on a long walk, but if I did I'm sure I'd blister. If you have wide feet, these will probably will do the same to you. But they are cute, and clunky...a heavy sandal. Amazon has them at the best prices so do it here!!!!

just what I was hoping for...5
These are great slides. They are well made and have a thick cushy sole. One thing to note-- I read one review that said to order 1/2 size down for dr martens sandals. So, if you were an 8 1/2 then to order the 8s. Not with this style sandal. I wear an 8 1/2 and my foot goes right to the edge on both ends. Where as with the Dr Martens Shila Sandal, I ordered the 8s and they fit great on both ends because it is a different type of sandal. So, if you're thinking about getting these sandals, I'd first try a similar pair at a store if you can or if you are a half size--then round up rather than down to the size you should order.
