Made in 1956 this movie answered the question 'what is religion for'? At least it did when I first viewed it as a teenager.

In the face of some bizarre murders going down in police officer Beck's jurisdiction he always reacted credibly. I could imagine myself responding the same way. Great dialog in this movie. It inspired me to improve my own ear for it in my writing.

The first and still the best although the second one was very respectable. The premise is simple but effective. How do you stop the unstoppable force?

How can one top this masterpiece? In spite of the slow pace the story still compels one to pay attention. Great visuals even if the special effects are dated.

I was ambivalent when this movie was remade. Yes, the 1951 version was a little too quaint but the story still resonated. Gort still looks threatening to me even after seeing the updated 30 foot tall version in the remake.

I still like the voice over narrated version of this movie.

Space Opera done right. Intimidating bad guys that breath ominously, damsels in distress and a hero that comes of age against the backdrop of galactic empire.
