Abysmal maps....3
We just returned from a trip to Dublin, and this was the only guidebook we used. While it is quite portable, and the reviews of restaurants etc and info on attractions were generally spot-on, we found ourselves cursing the maps in this book.

Our first clue came when we tried using the map in this guidebook to find Davy Byrne's pub, of "Ulysses" fame. (We were in Dublin on Bloomsday) The map in this book had it several blocks to the west, and so we spent a lot of time walking up and down another street looking in vain.

At least three other attractions and restaurants were similarly misplaced in the maps in this guidebook. Which is really a shame, because other than the maps, it was quite useful; but if you can't get to where you want to go, what's the point?

Excellent for first-time visitors or short trips.5
We went to Dublin for four days this year, and this was the perfect guidebook to take. We didn't want to lug a big book around -- this one fit in a small bag and held lots of (color-coded) useful information. I also liked that one of us could pocket/refer to the map while the other one flipped through the book.

If we were going to be there for longer, I would want to purchase a more comprehensive guide, such as Rick Steves' or Lonely Planet. For example, the entries in Day-by-Day, while not all ridiculously expensive, are past what our budget allows. It didn't matter for the few days we were in Dublin, as there were enough budget options to go on, but we might feel limited on a longer trip.

Overall, this series of guidebooks is great. Just make sure to check the date of publication of the book and supplement it with internet research if the book is more than a year out of date, so you don't get stuck w/ a restaurant closure or a museum closed for renovations.
