Specialty saw
I purchased this saw in a set with the 18 volt hammer drill, and sawzall, and got it for a great price because it was last years model (ni cad batteries). Since then I have upgraded to all lithium batteries (for only $49 a piece here on amazon) The majority of my tools are Milwaukee because of their proven durability, toughness, and strength. This is a great saw for many reasons, and lives up to Milwaukee's standard.
First and foremost it is very powerful for a cordless saw. It will cut through 2" wet stock without binding. I have always used worm drive saws, so this saw is great cause it also has the blade on the left. I guess it is a personal preference for carpenters, but I prefer the left. It is easier to view what you are cutting, and has better ballance and control. Also it makes pulling up the saw guard up with your left hand easier than reaching over the saw.
Also this saw isn't very loud at all, even when your cutting, and when you take your finger off the trigger the blade immediately stops spinning. This saw is great to use at heights, although it isn't the lightest or most compact cordless saw. I love to use it for cedar shingling jobs, to cut the shingles right in my hand.
But the only draw back to it's design is the lack of a good hook. When you try to put this saw down, it wants to roll over, and sometimes right off the scafloding, or roof! No matter which side you try to put it down on (especially the shoe) it always wants to move or flip. I guess it isn't weighted or balanced right. One solution is to make your own hook or rig it so won't , or change the blade depth to 0 after every cut. I'm not saying that something can't be made to hold onto it, but it can be a pain to always have to worry about it falling.
Overall it is an excellent powerful, quiet, and relatively lightweight saw. I recommend you buy this saw with the combo, or separate if you already own milwaukee cordless tools.
My husband loves it!
I bought this as a gift for my husband. Since I'm not the one using it, it's hard to do a review. I asked him how he likes it. He loves it! I mean really loves it. He says it's powerful. He love the battery time, charge time and power of the saw. I say the thing better be amazing since it's so expensive! When I bought this on Amazon it was at least $200 cheaper than at Lowes or Home Depot! So basing this on my husbands happiness & my happiness at saving some money vs. the store, I'd say this worth buying!
