Editorial Reviews

Album Description
A Swingin' Session with Duke Robillard, is an album for everyone, blues lovers or jazz fans. It is joyful, timeless music. Duke Robillard presides like a great chef, adding a touch of seasoning here, a little extra heat there. Duke Robillard is a legend and he has been nominated for a Grammy, won four W.C. Handy awards for Blues Guitarist of the Year, recorded with the likes of Bob Dylan, and The Blind Boys of Alabama, plus in 2007he was the guitarist for Tom Waits tour. The players on A Swingin' Session are Scott Hamilton, Doug James, Mark Teixera, Sax Gordon, Bruce Katz and Marty Ballou, all major players in the jazz / blues scene and many are bandleaders themselves. Duke Robillard founded Roomful of Blues in 1967 and he was a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. He still tours constantly and performs up to 250 dates a year.

Customer Reviews

Not just for jazz guitar fans5
I am pleasantly surprised at this wonderful album. All of the artists on here are top-notch. I was expecting alot of blues and jazz solos from Duke Robillard, but was blown away by the notable musicianship from every player on the album. Check out the organ solo on track one, the trumpet solo on track 3, and the tenor sax throughout most of the album. I could go on, but rest assured that every player will dazzle you at some point. Highly recommended for fans of jazz and blues.
