From Booklist
Gr. 6-12. Successful business entrepreneur Bachel has compiled her ideas into an approachable volume to assist teens in defining their real interests, formulating and systematically pursuing workable goals, and celebrating their achievements. She also includes 19 useful, reproducible forms (and a reminder never to write in books from the library). Her helpful advice is well supported by quotations from teens who have tried some of the techniques, and simple, appealing graphics keep things light. Perhaps most effective are the chapter-closing "Think It & Ink It" questions intended to help teens act on Bachel's clear, often heartfelt suggestions. Back matter includes goal-setting resources and some helpful organizations and Web sites. Roger Leslie

Customer Reviews
Every teen (and goal-less adult) needs this book!
I am always looking for ways to help my 15-year-old son to reach his full potential (without nagging him!). So when I saw this book, I ordered it for him. It just came--he's not home--so I decided to page through it, and before I knew it, I had read the whole thing. It's tremendous! Easy to read but not simplistic; positive and inspiring; and equally applicable to boys and girls. Where was this book when I was a kid??? One of the best features of this book is quotes from teens about how they have achieved some very interesting goals. The book also has worksheets to help kids clarify their values, goals and action steps. Those seem like a great conversation-starter for parents and kids--I can't wait to learn more about my son, and for him to learn more about me, as we discuss our goals and dreams! Okay, I must admit, I'm going to fill out a few of those worksheets myself. I'm also ordering two more copies to donate to my son's high school library. And this book is going to be my Confirmation/graduation/Bar Mitzvah/birthday gift to teens from now on!
This Book Is A Real Gem!
As a middle school English teacher, I deal with young people and their struggles to understand themselves and focus their lives daily. What Do you Really Want? is the perfect resource to help teens do just that! Presented in an easy-to-read and manageable format with a positive, upbeat tone, the book makes the lofty and overwhelming task of "getting what you want" a simple, systematic process that ultimately leads to personal satisfaction, self-esteem, and, of course, happiness. I plan to use the book and its many wonderful activities, quotations, empirical examples, inspirational quotes, and self-reflection techniques in my classroom on a regular basis. I wish that a resource such as this would have been given to me when I was a teen making crucial life decisions. The down-to-earth tone and empowering message presented in the book is a resource for life, as relevant to adults as it is to kids. Professionally and personally, I wish I would have discovered it sooner! I have recommended (and will continue to recommend) the book to friends and students alike!
Gets teens on the goal-setting track!
As a father of three teenage girls, I'm always looking for ways to help them reach their full potential. What Do You Really Want has really given focus to my daughters' everyday lives. Like so many teens, my girls have great hopes and dreams but aren't sure how to make sense of them. The book's fun worksheets and journal exercises helps teens decide what's truly important to them and takes them step by step through the goal-setting process to help them achieve those goals. What's more, it's a book they can carry with them for the rest of their lives and continually turn back to for guidance. I recommend this book to any parent or teacher looking to bring direction to teens they care about - or even themselves. I was surprised at how much I've incorporated what I learned about goal setting in my own life!
