Editorial Reviews

Review
"The strong point of this text is coverage of material; every topic in the book is rightfully one that should be included in a required course such as ours....The text is limited to practical dimensions of the use of technology in the classroom and does not whirl about in the exploration of instructional theories and philosophical tangents. The book aims at people who are fairly new both to teaching and to the use of technology."

About the Author
Mark Grabe is professor in the psychology department and the instructional design and technology program at the University of North Dakota. He earned his Ph.D. in psychology in 1975 at Iowa State University. He has been developing instructional software for approximately 17 years in support of his own research activities. His present projects include evaluating how students make use of online study tools in large lecture introductory classes and helping the University of North Dakota implement a Department of Education Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) grant.

Cindy Grabe is employed by the Grand Forks school district as a technology facilitator. Her position requires her to provide training to district teachers, administrators, and staff members, collaborate on curriculum projects, and conduct demonstration activities with students. She was recently awarded a three-year U.S. Department of Education Grant entitled "Engaging Students in Historical Inquiry."

A must have book for classroom teachers using technology.5
A thorough look at the impact of technology on classroom teaching. Describes technology as a tool for teaching, not as an end in itself. Good description of individualizing teaching for different learners, when you are beginning to use new technology in your classroom. Explains the different uses of different kinds of computer software for educational uses, and is written in a reader-friendly style. I use it in my 'Integrating Computers into the Classroom' course and get very positive feedback from my students on this book.

Good Overview, Though Dated on Technology3
This book gives a good overview of different teaching techniques based on technology. However, many of the key references are from the 80s and 90s, which dates a lot of material. Technology is clearly moving faster than the educational researchers can keep up. It's really up to the teachers to keep on their feet and come up with their own creative ways of applying technology in their own classrooms. This book can serve as a catalyst to some ideas, but it's not the end all in that regard.

You can find better...keep looking!3
Not that helpful. Very confusing when explaining some information and way overly detailed when explaining other information. There are better resources out there. The class I used this for was very helpful, but the book itself did not teach me anything new. Other books that are more hands on and have you try the things they are talking would be a better buy.
