Suffers by comparison3
Cole Haan Hand-Stained Pebble Grain Leather Cover for Kindle 2,Saddle Tan

This is a wonderful product that only suffers by comparison. If only the Amazon Kindle 2 Leather Cover didn't exist, I wouldn't know what I was missing and this would get a higher rating. The material is soft, supple, quality leather that looks, feels, and smells wonderful. The interior is even nicer and feels downright luxurious.

The strap system fits my Kindle perfectly with no problems of interfering with the power switch for me. Remembering that this is leather, I would recommend taking your time to "adjust" the way that the Kindle fits by gently pushing, pulling, and tweaking it into the sweet spot--and give it a couple of days. Sadly, it simply does not work as well as the hinge system in the Amazon cover.

My biggest complaint is the extra layer of leather stitched on over the spine area. This prevents the cover from folding back behind the Kindle easily. It folds back more like a bulky stiff magazine would. It leaves a big hunk of cover curled up under your left hand which just feels awkward to hold.

My recommendation, get rid of the extra layer of leather over the spine and add a hinge system. This would give at least one extra star on my recommendation, maybe two.

Overall, you won't be too disappointed with this quality leather cover. Just don't compare it to the Amazon cover.

****UPDATE****

After using it a bit more, and having the leather "break-in" and soften-up, I find that it seems to be developing into an even better luxury cover. It will never be the heavy duty security system some might want, but it is comming closer to reaching my expectations of what *I* bought it for. If only it had the hinge system.

I hated the business card pocket at first. I could see where, on the Kindle 1, you could keep your memory cards in the pockets, but this isn't necessary for the Kindle 2. I still wish it wasn't there, and I have often thought about trying to manually remove it with a sharp pen-knife (just haven't worked up the courage to try yet). A funny thing has happened, though. I have started to unconsciously hook the index finger of my right hand into the pocket when the cover is folded over and it gives me a bit more stability when holding it one handed.

I still don't love the business card holder, but I hate it much less. Finding this unexpected (and unintended) use for the interior pocket along with the breaking-in of the spine, have prompted me to want to add an extra star to my original 3 star review--I just can't figure out how!

Awesome indulgence!5
I am so glad I waited a few days to post this review. My experience was at first similar to some of the earlier comments: the leather is *gorgeous*, but it didn't quite reach to the edge of the Kindle and the spine seemed a little stiff, which caused the worst problem for me. It wasn't flexible enough to fold completely backwards, leaving a wide ridge on the left side. That was a disappointment causing me to briefly reconsider my purchase.

After a couple days use, however, I noticed the leather conforming a little better and I decided to try something. I ran my finger down the edge of the spine, indenting it a little. It turned out to be more pliable than it first appeared, and it folded back upon itself nicely. It has since started to break in beautifully, and with this softening it is slightly stretching to properly meet the edge of the Kindle. It is evident that it was sized perfectly for the Kindle 2.

Although it looks a little floppy in the photos, it actually is quite substantial but flexible, slim and lightweight. The feel of the leather outside and suede inside is incredible and a sheer joy to use.

It is pricey, but I have no doubt of its longevity. It is the kind of leather that will only look and feel better with age, probably outlasting the Kindle itself. I can only hope that the next gen will be the same size as the K2 so I can keep using this superlative cover!

beautiful SOFT leather case4
This is a SOFT leather case. those of you looking for more sturdy protection go for one with hard covers such as the amazon cover or the hard back cole haans. this soft leather cover secures the kindle with elastic straps at each corner. it comes a little close to the power button on the top left corner and the back button on the bottom left but i havent had any problems. its a beautiful leather case and serves its purpose well. it also feels terrific. reminds me of my buckskin bound copy of don quixote. the inside is lined with butter soft leather suede so for the first few days it does leave that suede residue on the screen. thats my only complaint though. as for any who complain about it not covering the entire kindle give it a few days of wear for the leather to "let out" and it will be perfect. leather made items are typically a bit smallish or tight when new because over time the leather will stretch a bit. over all im very pleased. it is a bit pricey but worth it for my kindle.
