Customer Reviews

SUPER, useful utility with great features!5
The toaster is great, even on frozen bread (special button for that). The unit has a small foot-print, & nice overall design; silver looks very sleek, with the shape of a real oven, not one of those long things that just don't fit in a reasonable amount of space.
On the outside it measures: 12 ½" wide x 11 ½" deep x 10 ¼ high. They want "space" on at least one side, but the feet slide nicely on the countertop. So if the fit is too close, you can just slide it forward a bit, then slide it back...after it's cooled, of course. The inside diameter is roughly 10 ¼" x 10 ¼", in other words, very useable. There is only one shelf, again unlike some of the other complicated brands that have 2 adjustable shelves. You don't need them. 4 slices of toast come out perfect, with only some stripes on the undersurface where they rest on the wire rack; toast is not dry, not wet inside. The cord is on the right side near the lower front, a location which works well for me.

There are lots of nice features.

The toaster grill pulls out when the door is opened (very few still do this). There is also a metal tray, which slides on over the grill. The door handle is several inches above the counter-top when the door is opened, unlike so many others where the handle hits the counter & you have to carefully sneak a gloved hand under to work it. The crumb tray is easily accessible from the front. This is good since you have to keep the crumbs clear or risk a fire from the high heat. It works by cycling the IR (infrared) on & off for both toasting & baking. There are 2 bulbs on the top, & one on the bottom. Seeing the IR lights cycle on & off is fun.

The baking is a bit tricky. You have limited choices for temperature: 250, 285, 320, 355, 390, 425, 460, & 500. The time increments are in minutes & half minutes...not a hardship. You do have to watch your baking a few times to get used to the choice limits. When I finally reached a customer rep, she suggested using smaller pans, that the disposable aluminum ones work well. Baking is even, unlike what another reviewer said. You do not need the tray for baking when using a normal metal pan.

With foil on the metal tray, it's handy for heating, melting cheesey sandwiches, and almost functions as a pseudo-broiler. There is no broiler in this oven. But, I am not struggling for that lack as I thought I would. They do recommend wrapping anything splattery (as in baking fish) in foil. Splattered grease could catch fire.

There is no preheating...makes it very easy to bake on the spur of the moment. My big oven takes 15 minutes to preheat, & I'm guessing must use much more power than this neat little baby. The surface does get very hot. But, as one other user said, it also cools down very fast.

You cannot use glass or plastic cookware as in a microwave; no paper cupcake liners: only metal. Again, not a hardship.

The machine does stop the IR when toasting or baking are done. There is a bell which rings a few times. Apparently some other brands do not stop automatically. There is an on/off switch on the unit, which still must be turned off when done. And, in addition, the instructions say that you MUST pull out the plug when done, which is rather annoying. It apparently draws juice when not in use, despite the On/Off button, & they say it could be dangerous. For repeated plug pulling, I would have liked a heavier plug like the Cuisinart food processors have! Meanwhile, this can be overcome with a little creativity: I bought myself a plug-into-the-outlet on/off switch rated for 1800 watts (unit is 1300), and simply flip the outlet switch after I turn off the machine, eliminating the need to pull the plug.

There are some odd "selection" buttons. I haven't tried: "Frozen pizza," "Quick reheat," or "Frozen Hashbrowns." I really only need "Toast" or "Frozen toast," & temperature with digital timer for baking.

My only beef: I am disappointed with the poor instruction booklet. The guidance for baking makes it sound like IR is faster. But it is pretty much the same as an ordinary oven, given the adjustments you must make for the limited temperature selection.

Also, for registering products, I could not find a serial number...it's stamped on the box beginning with a number 5, & not on the back of the unit as is stated. I penned it in on the label on the back for future reference.

This machine was bought to replace a small 2-slice GE toaster-oven which was about 25 years old (yeh, really). I tried the current GE from Walmart. Today's GE is a piece of poorly made junk. Another reviewer in a similar situation as I, found the same, & also brought the GE back.

So far, all the fire-hazard warnings are just that. Nothing has burned! I doubt the IR bulbs will last as long as my old GE. In the meantime though, this is one great, useful, useable, sleek, 4-slice toaster-oven, which, amazingly, fits in the same spot where the little ole GE was. I LOVE IT! :)

Best toaster I've ever had5
I'm not a "toaster-fanatic" or claim to be an expert on toasters, however, I do toast breads a lot and heat up frozen appetizers, etc. and this toaster is easily the best one I've ever had.

I was considering purchasing the Toastmaster Lightwave because I was looking for a sleek, nice looking unit (and this one had no picture on Amazon'd site) but when I saw the Lightwave in person, I was very disappointed! It looked completely plasticky and the glass door/hinge looked flimsy. Having owned Toastmaster before, that was consistent with my image of their products. So I ordered this Panasonic blindly because of other reviews I've heard and was not disappointed.

This thing looks great and blends in nicely with all my new stainless appliances. I actually LIKE putting this out on the countertop! And it has performance to match. Makes toast a lot faster and more consistently than my old Toastmaster. Heater frozen breads and snacks in half the time it used to take. And clean up is much easier than my older unit where you practically had to lift the toaster up to clean the crumb tray. In this one, you simply slide out the crumb tray which is accessible from the front (lifting and performing circus tricks optional!).

In short, this is exactly what I wanted: a stylish toaster oven that cooks better and faster than any other I've tried.

Excellent Toaster for the Money4
Here is my first impression of the Panasonic NB-G100P-S. I will try to list both my positive and negative view of the unit.
1. This toaster is not the typical looking toaster/oven(i.e Cuisinart, Kenmore, Black and Decker, Kitchenaid, Krups). Some people may like the styling but I prefer the looks of the Krups FBC-1. I have reasons why I bought this, read on.

2. This is lighter and smaller inside compare to Kitchenaid, Cuisinart and Krups. I hope the weight is not an indication of quality.

3. Silver (the other is white) color is the closest I can get to match my kitchen, I prefer black with Stainless. I wish Panasonic will have more selections in the future.

4. The outside gets pretty warm. Don't anything on top of this unit.

5. BUT, this toaster is more functional than other toasters for the money. I was able to warm my rolls in less time my old Kenmore (looks like Cuisinart Classic) takes to preheat. This is important when time limited. It will take the Kenmore 3~5 min. just to preheat, and I suspect other toasters are the same.
This Panasonic does not need any preheating, a big plus (think energy savings too).

6. Toasting is fast. It is 1/3 the time of my old Kenmore.

7. With preset buttons (this remembers the previous brown setting), it just a no brainer. Not that toasting is complicated, my old toaster has to be switched between bake and toast, brown setting then start button. I'm lazy isn't? Why not, if an easy way was available in other product. It just smart decision.

8. Quality. I had previous Panasonic before my Kenmore, can't remember the model, but I gave up on that because it was old and not cleanable anymore. I just can't ruin that unit. If this new model has that quality, that is a big bonus. I decided not to get the Krups because of quality issue this company has. Krups has good styling but I am not paying premium for the quality as reported by other users. Kitchenaid toaster is nice too (really heavy) and look well built, but the heating elements used suggest the same performance like the typical toasters. The higher rated Cuisinart is too much for what I intend to use it for.

9. There are a lot of nicer looking toasters out there, but I think I will get more practical use with this Panasonic. I am not suggesting this unit is ugly, it is just different.
