Customer Reviews

nice for a mid-range razor4
Bought this at a B&M store. I've needed a new razor for years but never wanted to spend more than [...] bucks or so. so I had a really basic 3 head norelco for years that did a basic job. ANyways finally decided to get a new razor the other day. It was between this model and norelcos next step down which was 10 dollars cheaper. the cheaper model didn't have a trimmer and didn't have teh ultra thin screen.

WHen I got home and after wrestling with the tank like packaging. I discovered that it came fully charged. After two shaves so far it's really nice. No discernable stubble and my goatee was left untouched. I got some minor razor burn on my lower neck on teh first use but that has more to do with my practice of not using pre-shave or after shave. The hinged pop open screen is nice for keeping the unit clean.

Close But Cheap Shave2
(From Mom's husband...)

I've used Norelco razors for over 20 years. This one shaves well but disappoints. I don't know whether I'm just expecting too much from a razor at this price point -- I'm having a difficult time with the idea of spending $100 or more for one -- or if Norelco just doesn't make razors like they used to.

The razor charges quickly, but the battery lasts only a few days. I shave while driving, so I don't always pay strict attention to my shaving, and I can only stretch my skin with my other hand when stopped at traffic lights. The result is that I run the shaver longer than is typical for a shave. Nevertheless, the battery life of this razor is much shorter than my old 5841XL. The latter would last for nearly two weeks!

The worst cordless behavior, though, is that it shuts off without warning. The shut off is, apparently, due to a weakening battery, but there's little warning. I've done very well over the years listening to the pitch of the motor to know when I was going to run out of battery power. When the end was imminent, I'd wait for an opportunity to finish my shave efficiently (rather than while driving) to make the best of the remaining power. With the 7350XL, there was only the slightest reduction in motor speed before it would shut off. I found that after leaving it off for a few seconds, up to a minute sometimes, I could turn it on and get more shaving time. Sometimes, it would work for many more minutes before shutting off again. At other times, it would shut off almost immediately. This behavior is only avoided with a full charge.

The floating head design makes positioning the razor slightly uncertain, but it is much better than a Remington razor I tried at a similar price. (That one wobbled noisily.) The good news is the design makes it easier for the razor to keep contact during more of the shaving time.

When opening the head to blow out the whiskers, the head flew off more than once. The last time, I found that something jammed as a result because when I switched on the razor, it rotated the blades slightly and then stopped. I opened the head again and tried running the razor, but the same thing happened. I tried once more and it worked. Well, two of the three heads worked. The third wasn't spinning because the top of its drive shaft had snapped off.

I need to return this razor and replace it with something else. I'm hoping that a more expensive Norelco will work better and not be made so cheaply.
